I recently purchased this, installed it on my old computer using the install cd and it worked for 6 months great. now, i have a new computer and i put it in, and it can read regular cd's but not dvd's. i think it is because i haven't properly installed it, but my mother threw out the install cd and i cannot find the drivers anywhere. I also get the message when i try to play dvd's that i need to update my video adapter driver. any advice? i am running a dell dimension 4300 w/windows xp & pentium 4 processor and 512MB ram.

Have you updated your video drivers like the error message suggested?

What is the make/model of your video card?

Right click on your desktop (anywhere on the screen)
    Select Properties
    Select Settings Tab
    Select Advanced (bottom right)
    Select adapter

This will tell you what type of video card you have. :)

Well, you can try this and follow it's troubleshoot instructions to see if it help.

On you desktop: Right click on "My Computer", Left Click on "Manage", Left double click on "Device Manager", On your right panel you should see either DVD/CD-ROM drives or IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers under TOwer, left click on + before dvd/cd-rom or IDE/ATAPi, select or double click on your dvd-rom/drive, then follow the troubleshoot guide. Now if you're going to troubleshoot IDE & ATAPI, left click on +, select either Primary or Secondary IDE Channel, you could either Troubleshoot now following the guide or try to change DMA in the Advance Setting, Make sure both 0 & 1 device says: "DMA if available" on Transfer Mode, and "ULtra DMA Mode <--after Mode should be atleast a number next to it" on Current Transfer Mode. If you see PIO only on Transfer Mode, then you'll need to reset it to DMA, apply to it or OK, Restart your Computer.

Hope this give you a little clue.
