Hi I have this problem now hope I get some help.

I have bought the Ritek G-04 DVD-R like advised on my other post.

But I have this problem now that never had before.

When I backup the DVD on DVD Shrink 3.1, and I burn it when I put on my DVD player It comes as VCD and doesn’t play, (my DVD player plays VCD just in case you may ask)

Not If I backup and burn with Nero 6.3 and do DVD-Video, my DVD player says CdRom and doest play, the only way can burn and play is if I use ImgTool then it plays the DVD.

But now while watching the DVD I get the screen going black and sound on the Background. Why is that?

It doest go black always on the same place, and never had problem before with the other backups.

So to recap why does Shrink 3.1 burn as VCD, and Why Nero burn as Cdrom, plus why the screen goes black while playing the DVD.

When i had the cheap DVD-R i never had this problem either with Nero or Shrink 3.1, weird files burn. but had to many DVD-r Damage due to the cheap DVD's

When I back up do you guy use Enable video preview or you un-tick does that makes any difference?

If you want have a look at my previews post.

sorry couple more things forgot to add.

I always let the original DVD to play for a bit before using DVD Shrink 3.1, I use PowerDVD.

What speed should I burn the DVD? Or makes no difference?

    Thanks

So the only thing you did was change media? Well here's a firmware update from optorite.com
    http://www.optorite.com/_english/web/1_product/3_download.php?hID=8

Next I would get the new Shrink v3.2(don't think this is your prob, but at least you'll get the newest version). Also uninstall and re-install Nero after you've done the firmware update for your burner.

Is this an external or internal burner?

    DarkBlade,

You need a little reminder. We are all here on our free time. My last post was at 11:57 PST(my time), and I get up at 4 am. And if you haven't noticed there are alot of thread on afterdawn, your may have been overlooked. Just look at my first post, I answered almost 10 hours later ... so have a lil patience.

The firmware is off the optorite website, which means it's been tested for your drive and one they recommend. It's not a hack firmware flash. And isn't there instructions?

Because it makes sure your burner is up to date. For my TDK 840G, I had to update my firmware to make it more compatible with different media.

Oh boy!! What makes you think this?

You were provided with very sound advice by Flip and chose to ignore it.

We cannot help people who are not prepared to help themselves.

People are willing to assist if you can clearly explain what your problems are and respond to requests for further information.

Demanding responses to unclear questions without trying suggested solutions will get you nowhere.

Your own diagnosis - i think that the backup DVD-r Overheats to fast does not make sense unless you are having heat related problems with your system.

hi sorry but i need to get this backups out of the way.

"i think that the backup DVD-r Overheats to fast"

when i play it on my home DVD player

    "And isn't there instructions?"

nop or maybe only this in a read me file

    1. Please upgarde your BIOS on REAL DOS mode, not VIRTUAL DOS.
    2. Command: dvflash dv2.bin /f

    MAKES NO SENCE TO ME.

"You were provided with very sound advice by Flip and chose to ignore it. "

i dint ignore it, is just cant understand that it not really related to my problem.

my original problems you guys telling me its all to do with firmware?

So to recap why does Shrink 3.1 burn as VCD, and Why Nero burn as Cdrom, plus why the screen goes black while playing the DVD.

what i dont understand is that never had this problems until i startet using the New DVD-r.

is like when i used the other DVD-r nero never burn and they i tested on my Home DVD player cdrom format and Shrink never burn a VCD format.

"Your own diagnosis - i think that the backup DVD-r Overheats to fast does not make sense unless you are having heat related problems with your system. "

the DVD that i burn when i play on my HOME DVD not pc DVD player, is Always burning.

sorry to rush you guys, is just i dont know if i should post here or advance expert area.

i will wait with out complaning for a reply. ;-0)

just dont want this post to go to page 5 were no one looks at it.

if someone knows how i can update the firmware in a easy way, could you please explain me, because the read me file makes no sence to me.

    once again PEACE.

Flip has asked you to PM him re firmware upgrade instructions.

Firmware upgrades can often resolve problems that people are having with their burners so it is a good option where all else fails.

Getting back to your initial problems - I see that you have completely uninstalled and reinstalled Nero - thats fine - have you checked your Nero settings following re-installation???

For example on my version of Nero Express there is a question - Which recorder would you like to use - a drop down box provides four options:
    1. Image recorder DVD
    2. Image recorder CD-R/RW
    3. H: Pioneer DVD-RW (DVD)
    4. H: Pioneer DVD-RW (CD-R/RW)

(Reference to Pioneer due to burner installed).

For DVD burning option 3 (H: Pioneer DVD-RW (DVD)is the chosen setting.

It may be worth your while to check similar settings on your system.

    hi thanks for the replys.

this is what it says on the Read me File

    1. Please upgarde your BIOS on REAL DOS mode, not VIRTUAL DOS.
    2. Command: dvflash dv2.bin /f

and there is a DVFLASH. application (51.5kb) and a DV2 bin file (917kb)

    Nothing else.

i download this firmware from the Above Link.

regarding nero yes it is the right driver selected.

i can burn music without a problem, and playing them on my Home Stereo.

i have nero Nero StartSmart but dont use the wizard i go straight to the normal nero interface.

    thanks for Looking

Just an after thought - music will burn fine with:
    DVD-RW (CD-R/RW) selected.

For DVD you need to have:
    DVD-RW (DVD) selected.

May not be your problem but worth double checking.

One other thought - are you using a OEM version of Nero??

Some OEM versions do not incorporate the Burn DVD - Video files option - this could lead to probs if you are trying other settings.

    colw thx for posting.

no i am using the full version.

"Some OEM versions do not incorporate the Burn DVD - Video files option - this could lead to probs if you are trying other settings."

i have Video files option,i have use it before to burn without a problem, but with this new DVD-r disc somehow doest burn the Files to play on the Home DVD, they come as Cdrom.

    and Shrink makes them VCD's

i am trying to Burn VOD after getting the files for the original DVD with Shrink.

they Only Burn and Play on my Home DVD with ImgTool, but i get the TV screen to go black and sound at the background, and dont know whats creating this!

the screen doest always goes black at the same part of the Movie.

whats making the TV Screen to go black and with sound on the background?

the original film doest make the TV screen to go Black.

i was thinking it was the DVD protection, but i was reading in another post that Shrink removes the protection, so i have no idead whats doing this.

hope this help to clear it up

    Thanks for looking

    DarkBlade,

I notice I helped you in your original thread:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/96177

Were you ever successful in using DVD Decrypter? If you are, your problem may be Nero. You really need to see if you can backup a different way. Have you tried un-installing, running a registry cleaner, then re-installing?

FYI, DVD Decrypter will only burn ISO Files.

I have that same burner(1yr) and I dont have any problems. I think that you have a conflit with some software you have on your system I would delete all my dvd software; but keep power-dvd and only reinstall dvd shrink, nero or easy cd creator I use nitro burn & go dvd/cd only $19 at Best Buy. There is a updated firmware but I did not insatll it remember I thing if it is not broken leave it alone. Also dont forget to do a system restore point before adding any software to your system. By the way you were giving good advice by the members of this form. Read read read.

flip218 I never try using DVD Decrypter I have it downloaded but doest look as easy, I still use DVD Shrink 3.2

I can make a backup using Shrink 3.2 and burning with ImgTool, no problem the problem is when I play on my HOME DVD the TV screen goes black with sound on the background and I need to reset the DVD and play the movie again, and it happens almost always at the end of the movie.

The Black screen never happens in the same place, did anyone ever report a black screen when playing backups?

It only happens with Backups not with the original DVDs.

"""Have you tried un-installing, running a registry cleaner, then re-installing"""

Yes I have done it all even remove the IDE cable for the Drive and done some cleaning.

Can it be a dirty lens? But again I don’t get errors when burning!

    viper64

""""I have that same burner (1yr) and I don’t have any problems."""

I don’t have easy CD creator, the only DVD software I have is PowerDVD if you don’t count WMP

And yes I know the advise is good, but i find that doest match my problem.

None ever hear of a TV screen going out with out a picture only sound on the background???? And again nothing wrong with the DVD PLAYER.

Doest happen with other DVD originals, I think it must be the DVD-r but everywhere I read this is the best, so I am confuse.

Don’t know if you guys what imgtool is but here is the site just in case http://www.coujo.de/

Please don’t think I don’t appreciate your help, is just the advice give I have done it all and more and still nothing apart from the Firmware.

    Regards
