Umm, the 3870 is CHEAPER. Look around our forums and you will see most of us hold the opinion that while the 8800GT is a BIT faster, the 3870 has better image quality.

Well, im not going to play crysis on high settings.. I just want a good video card that has no lagg, or hardly no lagg at all to play with.
cuz im sick of playing with 15-20 fps on wolfenstein, ppl with a decent card got like 80-100 fps..
Well, the ppl i already contacted for some advice and they said (almost all of them) advised me an Nvidia card 8800 GT or 8800 GTS if my budget is higher. But i'll see how it turns out, if ppl really suggest the radeon 3870 above the 8800 GT, then im taking the 3870.

The HD3870 is hands down a better product than the 8800GT. However a lot of people prefer the 8800GT because it's marginally faster, and I mean marginally. The 3870 offers newer technology, better visuals and reduced power consumption under load. Not to mention it's much cheaper (in europe) than the 8800GT as well. It's also quieter...

You're not going to see a difference between 60FPS and a 100FPS, but you will see a difference between quality. Take your pick. Anyway if you were to compare both the card you would probably get something like this:

    3870: 90 FPS
    880GT: 100 FPS

Heh, it's not quite that slight, but nonetheless it's still barely noticeable.

    ok thx.

Well, if i play wolfenstein, i don't really watch the graphics, cuz they aren't that good, but i like the gameplay so much and that's why i need a good graphic card, cuz im lagging so much =s.

    Nvidia 8800 GT:
Texture Fill Rate (per second) 33.6 billion
    Maximum Memory Bandwidth 57.6GB/s
    Memory Size 512 MB
    Microsoft DirectX 10
    HDR Lighting 128 bit

    ATI Radeon HD 3870
    Specificaties Reviews Kopen Algemeen
    Merk ATI
    Productnaam Radeon HD 3870
    Chip-codenaam RV670
    Interface PCI-Express 2.0 x16
    Geheugen 512 MB
    Kloksnelheid - Chip 775 MHz
    Kloksnelheid - Geheugen 1125 MHz
    Geheugencontroller 256 bit
    Type geheugen GDDR4
    DirectX versie 10.1
    Vertex Shader versie 4.1
    Pixel Shader versie 4.1
    Unified Shaders 320
    Pixel kleurprecisie FP32
    Extra Power-connector
    Chip - Transistors 666 mln
    Chip - Productieprocédé 55 nm
    SLI-compatible
    Geïntegreerde H.264 videodecoder
    Geïntegreerde VC-1 videodecoder

so i think im getting further with Nvidia 8800 GT on a long period of time. so i don't have to buy a computer every 2-3 years.

But now only one thing.. the price.. i already mailed several computer stores and none of them reacts..
If somebody could give me a price with :
    19/20/22 inch screen
    keyboard
    Nvidia 8800 GT
    2GB Ram
and the rest of the parts that are normally in a computer and that can run the nvidia 8800 GT in it smoothly.

grrr and now i read about the ATI RADEON HD 3870 that it's a good card, but they never compare 8800 GT or 8600 GT with the ATI RADEON HD 3870.. grr, dang it, hard choice..

Typically the HD3870 is 10-12% slower than the 8800GT. That's pretty much irrelevant though, since by the time games are unpleasant to play, you're looking at a difference of 2 or 3 fps, hard to notice.
Because of the better rendering quality, PS4.1 and DX10.1 support of the radeon, it's the better choice.

    Don't forget that's also the 256MB HD3850, not the 512MB I recommend.

Well they have the 3870 on there which is what he was looking at.

Also note that all the benchmarks are flawed - Since when is a 7800GTX faster than an X1950XTX or HD3850?

Some games have anomalies I guess.

But only all the ones used in the THG benchmarks? I like THG's professionalism, but comparisons are useless because their benchmark format changes day by day.

Yeah and so does their test system so I guess that's why they aren't that consistent. It's still a good baseline graph to go from.

    Oo..

I heard from my friend that his brother is selling his pc.
It has a Radeon x1950 Pro graphic card with philips HD 19 inch screen, boxes, keyboard, mouse.
He says that call of duty 4 runs smoothly on it.
His brother is graduated for computer.. dnno what but he knows how to build a computer.
Should this computer be worth 750 euros? he says his brother payed new over 1200 euros.

But i can take out the x1950 pro and put a radeon 3870 in it so it's even better then =)

What you've got to consider is that my PC originally cost me £1250. Even though I've upgraded it quite a lot since it was new it's now not even worth half that much. That PC's probably not quite worth 750 euros, but it's not a bad deal, depending on what CPU it has and how much RAM it's got. A 3870 would certainly be better than an X1950Pro, but he is right in saying that it can run COD4 smoothly, on a 19" screen anyway!

Their family knows alot about computers, and i completely trust him that he says that his computer runs smoothly on it but i think i'll just have to ask him to place a radeon 3870 so i don't have to buy a new graphic card within every 2 years.
