disk mngmt only shows the 20G and CD-ROM.
BIOS detects the 20G as primary 0 and 120G as primary 1.

I right clicked my computer> manage> disk management and see the cd-rom and 20G as reported above.

I see both hard disks listed in device mngr. Properties show device working properly.

if I disable the 20G right now, I wont have access to windows. I can't get into 120G with any software, so far. I tried booting from 98 without success. Hangs on black screen flashing cursor

Your saying it still won't boot off the Windows emergency startup disk with CD rom support? You may have to install that HD in a friends computer as Slave and format the complete HD and remove all partitions. Then start all over with 1 main partition. I had a few strange ones I had to fix that were partitioned part in NTSF and part in fat32.

I've opened partition magic and it sees the 120G - what do you recommend as I read through help files.

Last night I sent an email to a MS-MVP I found somewhere in the MS XP site. She wrote back saying I ought to uninstall SP2, try the seagates diagnostics again, format, etc, then re-install SP2. After 4 hours, I now have a formatted, recognized 120G disk! WOOHOOO!

Thank you for your time and help. Its been a frustrating 2 weeks. I appreciate this forum.

    regards,
    nancy

SP 2 strikes again. What a piece of junk. I can't understand why MS won't fix it right. I didn't even think about that possibility.

for what its worth, PartitionMagic saw an overlap of partitions - could be why none of the boot disks could help. I dont know... tell you the truth, I didnt know I had installed SP2 - I'd been avoiding it for months!
Now that its gone do I really want it back lol...
Again, live and learn - its why we're here!
    Thanks
