I have a Dell latitude D500 laptop and i wanna upgrade my ram, The laptop uses pc2700/333mhz ram. However when after looking at ram prices ive noticed 333mhz ram is two to three times more expensive than faster ram (im assuming due to supply/demand and current manufacturing) Anyway I was just wondering if its possible to put in ram which is faster than the system can use and the computer would still work. I understand if it is possible the ram would only reach 333mhz speeds but If i can buy faster ram for less i would take that option! any info would be great thanks!!
Often, you can buy PC3200/400mhz RAM, as long as it's DDR1 and it will simply drop to the required speed. It still won't be that cheap though, DDR2 is where the main sector of the market is now, hence the low prices. However, unfortunately DDR2 isn't compatible with your PC.
@ddp: Yeah, I knew that, but I'm shocked, now reading my post that I wrote it. Not what I meant to say at all!
