Nope that's the good thing about it - I don't have to worry if I forget to use the utility or change a setting. Set to that by default. Might be a good idea to do a clean install of Nero. So do this: °Uninstall Nero (write down serial # 1st)- run the clean tool °Run Nero's Nero's Driver CleanTool & RegistryChecker °Reboot °Run a registry cleaner like ccleaner. Use the issues and cleaner options °Install latest version of Nero Keep us posted! (need your review on that new LiteOn too!) Happy New Year!

Did you do the clean install? The log still shows show of Nero 6 left: Nero API version: 7.5.9.0 Using interface version: 6.3.1.4 Since this drive is very new - Nero doesn't fully recognize it: Connected to MMC as unknown drive with class-nr : 1 Drive is autodetected - recorder class: Std. MMC recorder Neither one is probably not a biggie though but not a bad idea to do a clean install. Nero tends to leave behind alot of junk. CdRomPeripheral : LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1P atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off This can be playing into the problem. DMA needs to be on - the drive right is in pio mode. Uninstall the secondary ide channel - reboot and let windows do it's thing. Here's a guide Check the connections too - make sure all secure. Left the jumper on this drive set to slave?
Thats right. I know that.. Man can't believe i missed that. The DMA thing. Had to do that with the old DVD burner. I will do that when i get home and see what happens. Also will probably try to do a clean install of Nero. Do you know where i can get the cleaning tool to clean up Nero. I am sure i can look around google to find it. Thanks for your help
and yes it is on slave. maybe i should make the DVD drive the master and the DVD_ROM the secondary. what do you think?
If you go to one of my posts above - it has all the hyper links to the clean tools. Just click on them Yeah I would switch the drive to master and the rom to slave. Not a bad idea there. Maybe you should have picked up a new ide cable from newegg. A bad cable can be one reason the drive slips into pio mode. And if this was happening w/ the other drive - maybe why. Oh and not a problem on the help
for some reason when i set up the drive they all start on PIO and i have to change it. The memorex was the same way.
Try using the booktype utility in dvd decrypter or imgburn. Tools/drive/change booktype. Select lite-on/change: drive (for dvd+r media - eeprom). New setting: dvd-rom. Click change then it should say sucess. You can do the same for dvd+r DL and dvd+rw Edit: I'm a little late posting this as I got busy in the middle of posting so ignore this if the bitsetting problem is resolved.
my cd-rom is set to cable select and ther dvd burner is set to slave. i just can not figure it out. the burner is set to dma when avail but it says current mode is pio??
Change the burner to cable select too since it's a Dell (txs garmoon) Then I would uninstall the ide channel they're on & reboot.
yeah, i got it all working now. I found that dell has a force DMA program that i ran and it now works great. Both drives are on cable select and all seems to be working well. my only question is how can i check to see if the dvd's are being burnt as DVD-ROM's?
Nevermind. I always ask questions too soon. My drive is setting them as DVD-ROM's so everything is working great. Thanks a ton for your help blinkie and as for the drive... The LH-20A1P works great!! It is very quiet when i burn at 4x. quieter than my old burner. It is not that bad, in my opinion, when burning at a high speed. Not any louder than my old emprex burner. SO all in all, i love the drive and thanks for the referal to this brand..
@kstepan50 You're welcome Glad you got it all sorted out and are happily burning. I wonder why 2 reviews had the drive was loud - maybe they have very sensitive hearing - who knows Happy New Year all!
