Plextor is fixing to realease a new burner. Pioneer drive is also very solid. Wonder who makes the memorex drive? You should be able to go to manufactors website of most drives and go with the media they reccomend. Good Luck Spacedust..
I read that plextor is discontinueing bitsetting capability on their new drives and pioneer has never had this feature. Personally I booktype all my dvd+r/rw media dvd-rom for greatest compatability and would not want a drive without this capability. I am fairly sure the new memorex 16x dvdrw drives are made by lite-on and could be improved upon with a little tweaking. My drive of preferance would be benq.

Assume that you have copied the ISO to your hardrive and are attempting to burn the image from your hardrive to a DVD.
Well, I just returned the drive to Best Buy, actually traded it with another Memorex drive. (It was the only one they had cheap enough to avoid paying out of pocket for an upgrade). For some reason the discs now work. =) The only thing now is that its slowest burn speed is locked at 6x. Kinda wanted it to stay at 4x. I've burned about 10 movies without problem so I'll stay on this media until I run out (100 spool). Thanks for the help again fellas, 'preciate it!
sounds like you need newer firmware for your drive maybe (the drive could have been in stock for ages and it's firmware could be out of date)
Well I knew I was going to jinx myself. I had no problems burning at 6x using the Verbatim 16x media. As soon as I used a Sony DVD-R 8x disc, there was intense pixelation throughout the movie. The drive's slowest recording speed is now locked at 6x. Here's my new drive's model#: DVD+/-DLRWL16 D2-15. If anyone has heard anything about this drive please give me a heads up. Or if anyone has a drive to recommend me, I'd be happy to take this thing back to Best Buy.
