I downloaded some movies off morpheus and they all share the symptom of having a black screen and no sound. The file supposedly works on other people's machines.

I tried divx players, but they cant open them

I tried downloading Angelpotion codec, but that doesnt work

    Help is greatly appreciated.

    Try this:

-uninstall ALL of your DivX codecs (3.x, 4.x, Angelpotion, etc)
    -install DivX 3.11 alpha
-install DivX 4.12 (or newer) and when it asks "do you want to use DivX4 to play DivX3 movies" answer "no"

I tried that, but it still doesnt work. I'm beginning to think that this doesnt have anything to do with codecs, but maybe operating system or video card, etc

Have you tried Windows Media Player 6.4 or did you use the new bloatware versions?

You can find the WiMP 6.4 by clicking Start, then selecting Run.. and typing mplayer2.exe

See, it changes the size of the box and gives the right length but there just is no picture or sound.

Try opening the file with VirtualDub and see what it says about the file.
