Received link for new firmware from the Seller on two occasions and flashed Version 3.00 on 28/05/2007 and Version 4.00 on 23/06/2007 without a problem.

It has been working perfectly up to last Monday. Unit gets powered off and on regularly without a prob either.

I checked inside against photos on dooby2oon’s site - all looks like original stuff, even has Samsung chip. All that is except for the vents!!!

Yes it could take a while for them to die the reason they die is because the cpu in the original runs at 85Mhz while the clone runs at 65Mhz so the clone is doing twice as much work as the genuine box hence the reason they die

on another note when i first started i got stuck with some clone boxes myself and as you say the supplier supplied the updates but as i was a member on here i was quick to recognise that it would kill my box

But that is too late now i would say it has done just took longer that is all the only way around this i would say is to jtag the box and see if that is the problem

Yeah, looks like it has died ok. Will JTAG the box and see if that works. I should be ok doing it - back to my tools. Will update you on whether it works or not. Thanks for the help.

Just found a thread on another site started by someone with the exact same problem as me....

He says - "When I power on the Starview I only get a 0 and sometimes this could be the 2nd digit, and sometimes the 3rd. I then tried GTRom out of curiousity and it would not connect. When it cycles it sometimes very quickly flashes to On but then the n disappears.

Just to say before I began i set up the box as normal. I got various digits on the LCD, some readable some not. I had a cable feed and scart to TV, on screen I had green square (with intereference) taking up about a quarter of the screen."

This is exactly the same problem as mine. This guy JTagged the box successfullty but it still returned to the same state.

Later on in the thread there was same fault mentionned again by another user

"I have just spent several hours yesterday trying to revive a Starview (not v1 but over 1 year old) with exactly the same faults, even down to the corrupt green square taking up the lower left hand corner of the TV screen. The best I can get out of it is it sometimes boots with the menu screen up and after selecting English, then telling it to try a scan it freezes with a corrupt screen. Other times it shows just a blank screen on boot up, etc..

I even went to the trouble of removing both power and main board and re-soldering every major solder joint I could in case of a dry joint, but no difference. It apparently went off whilst watching the TV, not during a power cycle or anything so I suspect that it is fatal. Could be as little as a worn out capacitor but there are a few to try and it might be in vein. If I do try them I'll report back IF it has cured it Could also be faulty tuner or the actual flash chip itself, even though it appears to accept the jtag flash OK."

So lads it looks like I'm not the only one with this problem. I'm experiencing the same as them even down to the green square sometimes on a quarter of my screen.

There is unfortunately no favourable answer or fix to that thread as yet. I will try and investigate more myself.

If anyone out there has experienced this and has a fix for it please reply here and let me know...before I bin the box

I have an unusual problem with my Starview Original box.

Hello again. Have more info on my situation regarding my Starview box.

I have been able to load firmware V4.00, V3.00 and the clone fixed V2.57 but to no avail. I'm still getting the "0" on my display and intermittantly a green square or blank menu screen on the tv.

I used fergusrb's way to flash the firmware onto the box - in pre standby, either after about 3 or 4 moving green lines the box sticks with the green line not moving at all or it keeps moving forever. If the box will NOT RE-FLASH as normal from on or standby, try this but it may take a few goes to work.

Connect the box to the pc with your cable but switch it off at the back. Load the correct firmware bin file into GTRom & ......etc.

    Any ideas????????

Hi mate i have exactly the same problem as you. I think the box could be a 1st gen although i have 18 vents aswell. I have nothing new to add but this is not an isolated problem. There must be a fix out there.

    Cheers al

I have seen this on numerous occassions and have gone through reflash, jtag, check psu, virtually check every point on the board. To me it looks like a faulty tuner and as such I have not come up with a fix. So new box on the cards I would say.

Why would a faulty tuner make the box not boot properly. is there some sort of a self test?

The "0" problem usually indicates no signal but it also have an unsavoury effect of turning the box off. This usually occurs after a power outage or if you unplugged the box which in turn has lead to a power spike it may affect the PSU also. Believe me I have seen this on numerous occasions you may try to Jtag it or reflash it if you wish.
