if the xbox is unmodded then no you cant just plug it in.

hold on, have you solved the no power problem yet? if not then your screwed, and i dont know how to help you. try pushing the power buttin directly (open the xbox and push it.)

BTW, the xbox will still try to power up with or without the HDD.

also if it does power up put a retail game in the disk drive then reset the xbox with it still in there and prey that the game boots. (if it doesnt then Slayers wont work.)

if i where sitting in front of your xbox then i could probably fix it, but i dont know what exactly is going on so i dont really know what to recomend.

okay, well, it dont power on....and as i recall reading somewhere, if the power source (whatever its called) was fried, it would at least power on for a sec, then shut off and the thing would still get hot and might smell faintly of burning. and the power source doesnt look like its fried, or has any burn marks, or anythings outta order....so is there anything else that could be wrong? and if it is the power source (whatever) is fried, is there anyway i can fix it or buy another one cheap?

and also, if you could find guides to fixing a blown fuse (might be that) that would be awesome as i have searched and searched for hours on end for a good guide on how to repair a fuse and have only found one, although its for a V1.0 so.......and the power supplys dont look the same.

yes you can, but you need two things.
    1. a modchip with an external switch
    2. the actual non-backed up game disk

Hey you guys i have a similar problem, my xbox just stopped working all of a sudden!! Well from what i can see the power doesnt come on at all, but when i look in the back the ethernet light still comes on green when i hit the power button, but the xbox doesnt even turn on for a second.
Question: Would this be the hard drive or the power box thing?
well thanks any ideas are welcome.

does anything show up on the TV? if not it sounds like a power issue. Is the ethernet light blinking all the time or does it blink for a second then doesnt work at all after that? But overall it seems like a power issue

nothing shows up on the tv and the light on the front of the xbox doesnt come on at all, the ethernet light just blinks once or something and then stops, alrite i should try changing the power supply, or maybe just the cord 1st right?

It may be a the power cord, I would try that before replacing the power supply. you might be in luck too, microsoft has been doing a recall on some of their power cords, so I would go to xbox.com and see if your xbox qualifies, if it does then you will get a free power cord, if not just buy one. they are pretty cheap too (about $5) and the worst that could happen is it still doesnt work so you can return it. if it still doesnt work try replacing the power supply.
    good luck
