    question....
I want to back up my original dvds , should I get a dvd recorder for $200 + $100 for a macrovision killer , or invest a little more and buy a computer with a dvd burner for around $500 (if I assemble it myself) I am very thankfull for any advice.....

Are you in the U.S.? You can get a basic Dell PC for $400 that can do the job. All you need is free DVD Shrink or Decrypter and you're set. The DVD Recorder won't be able to preserve your DVD chapter menus. It just records like a VCR and maybe adds breaks every few minutes.

I just got a Dell 3200 and have a DVD burner. I use DVD-Cloner II for all my backups. Works excellent.
