To answer the FLAC questions, it's a lossless audio format, it's pretty huge in comparison to mp3, but when you listen to FLAC encoded tracks over a stereo *like i do all the time*, you'll know why you chose that format instead of mp3...
I prefer it for most of my music, but it doesn guzzle up quite some space... which is why i also have a lot of 320 kbps mp3 files *and of course the fact that my mp3 player can't handle FLAC, WAV and APE yet*

Other good ones to try are Ogg vorbis *still lossy, but less so than mp3*, and Monkey's audio *aka APE*.

@The_Fiend, Yea I have a pretty decent stereo system I play my mp3s through sometimes, I don't really notice the quality being all that bad on my computer speakers, but on my stereo system I can.

    Reciever: Kenwood VR-405
    Speakers: Polk Audio RTi6

Computer Speakers: Some older Altec Lancing 2.1 40 watt speakers.
New computer speaker setup I'm getting: Logitech Z-5300E

Sorry Kind of got off topic there, but do you think I will be able to notice a difference in the audio format with the new speakers I'm getting?

I rip my mp3's in variable bitrates using EAC and the LAME encoder. The sound isn't on par with that of FLAC or WAV, but if you want music of reasonably good quality, versatility, and of reasonable size, then that is the best way to go.

I personally despise EAC because it makes things unnecessesarily complicated, and offers functions most common users will never even touch.
The only reason i could see for using it would be that it's 100% free, but since i can get almost all software free *legally, mind you*, i'll rather stick with stuff like dbpoweramp or Winamp's built in ripper.
Nice, easy, simple as pie [IMG]
