how can i boost my signal

    hi i have linksys router downstairs connected to my cable modem and i have a second computer up stairs with a wireless pci card thing.
    iam only getting very low and low signal.
    how can i boost the signal as cheap as posible or even for free...?

    What model linksys router? if it's a WRT54G, you can flash it with custom firmware (Alchemy) that allows you to boost the signal 4-5 times the normal.

    Other routers can be flashed as well, AFAIK.

    yes it is the wrt 54g what do you mean flash it i dont know alot about computers

    You're lucky, that's a great router.

    Check out this link:

    It's going to get a little advanced, but nothing you can't handle.

    The page that I linked to above is a good starting point, but you're going to have to do some reading.

    Like I said in my original post, "upgrading" your firmware will add some serious functionality to your router (including; upping the signal strength).

    oh and would it help if i had a lynksys wireless pci adapter because i have a different one

    Trying out the other wireless card certainly wouldn't hurt, in fact it could solve your problem altogether!
