Say I have a video file and its corresponding .srt subtitles file... if I use a program like intervideo or dvdsanta to simply author the movie it doesn't encode it along with the subtitles. What do I have to do? I've checked for guides on google, but they're confusing. Is there a simpler way to do it?

You need an authoring application that supports subs.
Encode the video as you normally would, then import to DVDLab Pro. Add your subs, and reauthor.
