wow, this thread got bigger.. hehe..

ok some replies (to the extent of my knowledge):

re: phreak: thanks for the info, i wish i knew more about coding! oh well.. i guess i'll need to learn..

re:padair: xbox games vary. some are 600mbs and only dvd-5 while others are huge like metal gear solid 2 : substance is 6GBs (DVD-9). Dual layered backups, your best bet would be to just put those games on your xbox harddrive or keep a copy on your pc so you can just transfer the gaem to the xbox when you want to play it. i'll work on finding more about dvd-9 games..

re: Pholak: i don't know much about PS2 but i do know a bit about xbox games. xbox games are made to be read from the xbox's dvd drive outside-in; ms claims it allows for faster read times, etc.. so when you put the xbox game into a pc dvd drive, you'll only see like a movie dvd structure (audio_ts and video_ts folders). to backup games you have to read the games through the xbox dvd drive via a FTP connection. Evolution x dashboard allows for this, its a replacement dashboard that works on modded xbox's; this is THE dashboard to use.

phew. i needa a smoke after all that typing. hope the helps everyone out, as always, got a ? just post it!

i was wondering about the whole dvd9 thing. why doesn't some company make blank dvd9-rw? I know they would cost a little more but I'd much rather pay a little more than try to convert it or save to my HD. It be a godsend for game backups.

    Does a company make them?

DVD9's are not "burned" they are made by a special machine that presses the information onto a clear plastic disc which together become a DVD. No personal DVD burner can do this type of process. So you cannot purchase a DVD-9, becuase if you could you still couldn't do anything with it.

AIDEN, i've researched your comments regarding "Blue-Laser" technology and I have found some very interesting facts. However no where has it mentioned that current standalone DVD players will be able to read these discs. Standard dual layer DVDs are aprox 9.4 (i'm sure you already know that) but most articles on the blue-laser discs mention 20-27GB per side of a disc.

Do you have any info/links regarding the new blue-laser technology compatability with existing dvd drives/products?

very good pad. its nice to see someone doing his research, your right about the dia of the disc and whether standalone players will read them, that we will have to wait and see but according to my resources it is possible.

heres one of my resources. i like it cause they update it on a daily basis

AIDEN, I was talking about current technology and hardware that exist now, not in the future. I just hope the burn speeds aren't like 1x or something lol, when they first come out. Not to mention what the prices could be for the hardware and discs.

Those are 2 sided DVD-R's that have 4.7 gigs on each side NOT a true DVD9 that has the full amount of 9+ gigs on just one side.

You guys seem to be going through way too much trouble to hack the xbox games. Surely, one of the game developers have shared the encryption codes to someone. There should be a computer program to decrypt it for xbox like the Deamon's Tool for other write protection. I spent two weeks hacking the ps2 before I found out Blindwrite would write the bad sectors that are used for the ps2 write protection. You don't need any mod chip to play backed up ps2 games, you just need the right burner and software. The only problem is WinXP thinks the bad sectors are 14-30GB and Blindwrite has to save the image to the pc in order to analyze it, but if the xbox uses encryption and not bad sectors for write protection this won't be a problem. If anyone has found the software to decrypt the xbox games please share it here or if anyone can tell me more about the xbox write protection maybe I can find it. Please forgive me if I'm not understanding this right, but it seems to me that xbox write protection if fairly straight forward and everything you're doing to get around is just too much work. I'm just doing this xbox hack for a friend. I don't even have one. Maybe I haven't spent enough time to get all the details of the write protection. Also, I'm confused about the Matrix mod chip. As far as I can find it's not even available until Mar.5, 2003. How were you able to have gotten it already?

First you need a mod chip (cheapmod will do £10)
a crossover network cable to plug from pc to xbox. And a copy of evox for the xbox.
(slayers auto installer v2.0 has all the xbox software on it) maybe a bigger HD for your xbox.

Hddloader (on slayers) will copy games from an original xbox dvd to your xbox HD in about 10 mins. You can just play the games from HD then.

Flashfxp can copy the files from your xbox to pc if you want to burn the game to dvdr. Load up stomp recordnowmax v4.5 select data, udf 128, track at once closed. burn files to dvdr and both your pc and your xbox will be able to read the dvdr.

What media can my xbox read.....depends what dvd drive is in it. There are 3..samsung, thompson, phillips. The samsung can read almost anything. (look at the tray bottom..are there cut out sections in the front corners...its a samsung)

Game too big 4 one dvdr...run game from HD..or burn to 2 dvdrs for storage and load files on HD when you want to play.

If you have a mod chip turned on and you connect to xbox live your xbox will be banned forever instantly. (new unbanned eeprom to use xbox live again)

Do the programs that are advertised on the net to copy Xbox games work? I would like to back up Xbox games but I don't know where to get a mod chip if I do need one.
    Thanks.

modding ur xbox will it affect it in any way? what is the best xbox mod chip out there today?
i am thinking about getting an Enigmah Xbox Mod Chip. is it ok? and once again modding ur xbox will it affect the system/console in anyway, such as not being able to play dvds or playing certain games?
