G’day mate, I need some more help. At the moment I have partitioned the drives, & need to choose a mount, I’m not sure which one to choose. There is / or /boot, /home, /tmp, /usr, /var, /srv, /usr/local. & if I don’t choose one I get an error and won’t let me continue instillation, as I’m sure you already know. Also to see what happens I choose / then when I continued with install, I got the following error ** you have not selected any partitions for use as swap space enabling swap space is recommended so that the system can make better use of the available physical memory & so that it behaves better when physical memory is scarce. You may experience install problems if you do not have enough physical memory. If you do not go back to the partitioning menu & assign a swap partition, the installation will continue without swap space.*** Not sure which mount to choose & if I should continue without swap space. ps; i tried to prnt scrn error & save to flash drive, but for some reason it wouldnt let me. Cheers Husskii
Also it won’t let me create a swap partition, I went back to partition editor & resized /dev/sda3 & allowed for 1GB to be free. I thought that way I could create the swap partition and continue installation, but apparently I have 4 primary partitions and that’s the max I can have. I know we are just doing this so I can access EISA Config, but apparently if I continue without a swap partition I might get installation errors. Should I just continue or should I make /dev/sda3 a secondary partition so I can create the swap partition, and will that work or would I be wasting time. Thanks Husskii
i had tried to take a screen shot of my partition but for some reason i couldnt save it, i think last time i had formatted my flash drive with ubunta so it was compatible & that way i was able to save to it, but this time i couldnt even open any of my drives. this time i couldnt because i need to keep what i had on my flash drives. but i went ahead and what i did was i formatted my dev/sda3 to a swap file and made the 5GB dev/sda4 as ext file, and now ubunta is installed and i can load either OS (ubunta or vista). but when i run ubunta, i cant find partition editor, and what drives i formatted for ubunta icant see on vista. example i only have c:\ drive on vista and nothing else. am i ready to access the eisa or did i make a mistake somewhere. also i will try take some shots again and see if i can post. cheers
Could you possibly post a screenshot from within Ubuntu using the GParted Live partitioner (like the picture I edited), that gives more info. There is no need to write down what is what, I can figure that out.
can u tell me what u mean by GParted Live partitioner or how to access it, bacause i couldnt find it after i installed ubunta. i went into admin tolls but it wasnt there. i also looked in all the menus but still i couldnt find GParted live partition.
First off, your swap partition is 29GB, it should be like 1GB. Second, you deleted your D: Drive, what I told you not to do so the data on that was lost. When you turn on your computer do you get a bootloader now? Like select OS type thing? What are the options there.
its ok that i deleted my D:\ drive, i backed up everthing before i started only because once i access my eisa config i plan to recovery my notebook back to the state it was when i bought my pc. with all the acer features i had before. when i reboot i do get bootloader now? my options are ubunta 8.10 os, ubunta 8.10 recovery mode, ubunta 8.10 memory test and then there is an option to load other OS, which is vista.
if possible i would like to copy an image of my recovery eisa config, so that way when ever i deceide to format ill have a recovery method from my dvd. is that possible or have i got high hopes. thanks husskii
Create an image of the drive from Acronis. Another option now is to delete all partitions and reinstall vista and create a recovery image yourself.
Gday mate, with ubunta i thought i install the OS so i could access my EISA config, and retreive my recovery. i still have ubunta installed but i did what u said and installed acronis i have created a backup then created an image of the backup, which is PQSERVICE. but now im back were i started. when i open the image i get the same files as (post** 27. December 2008 @ 14:15) above. i dont know where to go from here, its too big to burn the whole thing to DVD and i havent tried now but before when i double clicked exe files, i tried MBRwrWIN.EXE, NAPP.EXE & NAPdect.exe all 3 ran a cmd window for a second then closed and gave me errors which i tried to print scrn but in the middle of it windows shutdown and wouldnt restart, i had to run a Vista setup and repair so i could get windows started. now that i created the image, whats next?
hi mate is there a way i can get my original acer recovery on to a disc or even to boot from PQSERVICE. ive tried with acronis image, i backed up eisa config, then i created an image of the back up. i have tried to run the recovery straight of the image or even of the back up, but its no good. if i go2 autorun folder i get a SWCD.WIM file and i dont have a program to open it and when i do a search on the net its usless, all the info is in another language and when i translate, the pages that do manage to translate it ends up not making sence and all the other pages wont load. i get a 505 error. i would like the option of using a different operating system, and still be able to go back to factory condition if incase i need to repair under warrenty.
Try this first: I't shows how to use the recovery from Windows, what we've been attempting to do earlier. http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/Acer eRecovery Management.pdf I'm going to try to do some research on your laptop and I'll get back to you. It's the Acer Extensa 5220 right? Which country did you buy it from? Also try this: https://secure3.tx.acer.com/RCD/Main.aspx What is the serial number of the system? Hi how are ya, core2kid wats been happening buddy. Sorry mate it’s been ages since I’ve been on the net, both my desktop and notebook were attacked with a virus/ spyware & malware lol u name it. Anyhow with my notebook I managed to get thru to a decent guy from Acer & convinced him to reimage my recovery partition under warranty, because of the infections I caught. I also managed to clean my desktop I think, well that’s what spybot, MacAfee, malware bits & win OneCare are all saying but it still plays up a little every now & then so I’m not sure, I just keep updating my apps & run scans every few days just to make sure. All that aside, I decided to copy an image of my recovery partition which I know how to now, thanks to your help. And I’ll keep that aside in case I need it next time, because me being me, I like to fidget with my pc allot & just in case I stuff up my recovery partition again, because I don’t see Acer doing it again under warranty. Anyhow mate thanks again, and I learnt a lot from you in the past few weeks. Regards Husskii )
