    Hi all,
I bought this new computer (it is built) but I did not get the software with it. So I When I installed the xp professional I failed to get the sound and couldnt play video or dvd. I know I can get the stuff from the nanufacturer on net but I need to know all the details.

When I checked in device manager it was the multimedia devices that had question marks.

    Any Ideas?

    thanks

Try downloading CPU-Z, see what that comes up with.

do you have "integrated" video and sound, or are there AGP and PCI (respectively) cards for them. if they're integrated, you will most likely need to download drivers for them directly from the MB manufacturer. the MB model no. is usually stamped somewhere on the MB (often inbetween the PCI slots, like here the model name is KT6 Delta, the model number is MS-6590 .

as for Direct X, try here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...20-BFBB-4799-9908-D418CDEAC197&displaylang=en
but you should only do it AFTER you've got your video & sound drivers installed.

I have checked and got these details
    Under display I find

    PCI/AGP
    Video
upon opening more, it gives me this
Intel graphics 2 video adapter (looks fine, no X on it)
    Intel graphics 2 3D accelerator ( Not fine, It has X )

    X opengl
    X DirectX

I installed AUD_ALLOS_5.10.0.6020_PV_RealtekAC97 and audio works
    Motherboard name is Intelhazelton D865GVHZ
    form factor Micro ATX

Mobo Chipset i865GV by intel corp.

    am still struggling.

yup, as i expected: Intel graphics and Realtek audio: definitely integrated. you'll have to check on the motherboard for the model no. (or check with your PC's "builder"), and download directly from the motherboard's site for the LATEST drivers.

the HARDER route would be to check driverguide.com . they have innummerable drivers for integrated and other devices there, and i've had to visit on multiple occasions. problem is, much of their drivers are "user submitted", and so can vary in level of description, leaving you having to try multiple drivers before finding one that works for you... if you still wanna try it, i recommend searching "RealtekAC97 5.10.0.6020" (without quotes, of course) for audio. your video however is abit more tricky. try right-clicking your desktop and choosing Properties, click the Settings tab, Advanced, and then Adapter (or something that shows the NAME of the video chip used (NOT the chipset, although that does affect which video chip it uses)), and use THAT (along with "Intel") in your search string.

really though, again, your best bet would be to look ON the motherboard...

Like I said I installed the AUD_ALLOS_5.10.0.6020_PV_RealtekAC97 But When I play any CD it says windows media player cant play because my sound card is not working.
And In the divce manager it puts a Qn mark on multimedia.

Did I install the wrong sound card drivers or the sound card is not working at all.

This only means you either have to update your driver by going on the windows update and updating the driver. If that does not work, you have to roll back the driver. This is done through Device manager and by right clicking the sound driver with the yellow exclamation mark on it and then going into properties and then clicking on the driver tab and then in there there should be a button that saids roll back driver :)

And that should do it :)

Good luck keep us posted if you need anything else. :)

p.s I just wanted to address the mother board drivers for the bios you have to double click in Everest where it shows you under motherboard the bios drivers it will show you the website and you can get all the drivers you need from there. :)

To answer your question about a good DVD player for your PC. I would suggest a Program Called PowerDVD.

No worries mate glad it all helped you and worked out in the end. I use that program most of the time too. When i am fixing friends pc's and they have not given me any drivers it comes in very handy :)

Happy computing and keep us posted if you need anything else. :)

Borhan, he wants a free dvd software :) Powerdvd only has trials, no freeware.

@ Ddams : look for MPlayerClassic, it plays just about anything. and it's free.

    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scr...XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!

this is your motherboard's official driver download site. it should have the latest (and most compatible) drivers for ALL your motherboard's "accesories", INCLUDING not only your video + sound, but (most importantly) your chipset's software drivers.

also, Windows Media Player 10 plays DVD's for free, but i still prefer Power DVD for all my purposes. and it's the same price as WinDVD :)

    hope this helps!

Am glad it happened with me.

Thanks folks for the help. the pc does whatever I want.

After going trough the abve I felt am now something though this Girl frend Pc has disproved

    More or less same prob.
I hv installed powerdvd (trail) and when you play DVD it only plays te sound. I checked with everest and found the matrox graphic adapter and installed a better version. this did not solve the problem. I still cant see the video. I tried another type of video (not DVD) but this even was worse. It played like it was on internet with a very poor connection. No video and stopping as if the cd is scratched.
