DVD-ROM is the official DVD format.

Your ROM player will undoubtedly have DVD-ROM plastered on the front.

Download DVDinfopro which is free. Gives a bunch of information on drives, firmware, media and speed etc.

Interesting. I just ran the Alcohol test and found out that my external LiteOn 851SX only reads/writes DVD - (minus). What a dumb ass I am. I always thought it handled both medias. I guess that explains part of the problems I have been having burning DVD's. Although I have also tried -R and -RW and it won't burn past 8%-10%. Guess I will invest a couple of bucks and get a decent burner. I have never been happy with this one.
