The computer that I have right now is a "1999 Compaq presario 5280" and all i have done to it is put in ram. 320mb (the most possible. Its a "Intel Celeron Pentium 2"

So what do you think it would cost to modernize my system? Im not really into PC gaming (PS2 is for me). All I really do is internet, music, pictues and schoolwork. Any suggetions, and remember im on a TIGHT BUDGET

according to compaq is a 433mhz with 12 gig hd & maxed 384meg ram. possible to replace or add bigger hd say maxtor 40 gig for $60Can. might also be possible to add more ram but that might be a hit & miss scenario

check in manual, motherboard or bios for cpu setup & if there what is highest speed can go. 66mhz x 6.5ratio = 433mhz

run ad-aware se from lavasoft to get rid of spyware that can slow a p4 down to a p1. also run avg7(free version) from www.grisoft.com or do an online scan with www.antivirus.com free housecall to check for possible viruses

the only that MIGHT work is a faster cpu but that is iffy so other than that keep it virus & spyware free
