You are setting your system up like crap straight away if you just clone the drive.
All the info for the old hardware is going to be copied over as well.
You'l be able to add the new pc specific drivers etc... but your system is not going to run as smoothly as you would want it to, if your going to play FEAR.
Personally if you have a valid license, then I would just download tha version of software from a bittorrent site and burn yourself a new disk.
You'll also find Microsoft are very helpful at getting genuine licenses re-activated if you hit problems.
Cloning a HDD should really only be done for a replacement or spare not for a new machine.
    But the decision is yours!

Either that or pirate one. I don't recommend the latter, not just because of the illegality, but because the PC then becomes an open door for spyware, viruses etc. Firewalls help but aren't the be all end all. Missing out on the Windows "Genuine Advantage" or should we say "Fake disadvantage" means that you're open to exposure.
Oh and don't ever let your new PC get star force cancer either. Before you install a game, or preferably before you buy it, go on the net and find out whether it uses star force copy protection. If it does, for your own sake don't buy it. Your PC may buzz along happpily for a while, but then the problem starts.

That list is sufficient, but really I'd avoid the refurbished items, they're likely to give you grief. I don't see why anyone would want to buy something that's been returned and (probably) hasn't had anything done to it. I bought a 'refurbished' condition router off ebay and have been less than satisfied.
    Like the RAM price though?

Buying aside, that specification will easily see you through the latest games.

The MS genuine advantage tool only opens up the updates for hardware and software updates, not essential updates.

If you were running a copy of windows which could not use the genuine advantage tool, then it would still get updates of all the security patches etc... If you had auto updates enabled.

Regardless of the fact that MS know they are handing out their essential software updates to illegal copies, they also had the weigh this against the impact on security if 1000's of copies out there where opened up to all these security issues they had identified.
Otherwise all these users would then act as carriers for viruses etc... And make security a bigger headache than it already is.

So as far as security goes, there is no impact to a user who has either a legitimate or hooky copy of Windows.

Many people do that yes if that is your question.

    @sammorris
Nothing on that list was refurbished. I won't buy refurbished either, that just means it WAS broken.

Been there, done that got the T-shirt.
Far be it for me to discuss warez, but The Pirate Bay and Demonoid are candidates.

    Demonoid is many people's favorite.
I would link to it, but it's a sensitive subject. So I'll let you figure it out.

The only bad thing about demonoid is that their registration is often closed. But if you keep checking back every so often it will eventually open up.

Lol, yep, can't give you the URL, but let's just say it's not hard to work out what it is. However, due to site restrictions on bandwidth the URL's often down, and registrations are often closed, so pick your moment and check back every few hours until you're signed up. It's worth it though, they have a lot of reliable torrents.

Another satisfied customer. How's that for a recommendation?
I should know, I have to keep my wits about me after I got conned by the Downloadshield scam.

I missed that one, but my wife (well ex now) got conned with the winfixer scam. Stupid PITA spyware. After I uninstalled it, it kept installing itself back. Or trying at least. I ran about 5 different antispyware progs till I found XoftSpy which I now suggest to everyone.

I'm so excited. I can't wait. All my new stuff will be here today. It's funny though, because newegg used UPS, and zipzoomfly used fed ex. I ordered them at the same time, and now it's a race between competitors.

Yeah that'll be interesting, mind you where are those two places in relation to each other? Obviously it's not a fair test if the two companies are in completely different locations, especially in the USA.

Well newegg shipped UPS from TN, I'm in Dallas TX. Zipzoomfly shipped from CA, fed-ex. Fed-ex still won.
