Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you If you're young at heart For it's hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind If you're young at heart You can go to extremes with impossible schemes You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams And life gets more exciting with each passing day And love is either in your heart or on it's way Don't you know that it's worth every treasure on earth To be young at heart For as rich as you are it's much better by far To be young at heart And if you should survive to 105 Look at all you'll derive out of being alive Then here is the best part You have a head start If you are among the very young at heart And if you should survive to 105 Look at all you'll derive out of being alive Then here is the best part You have a head start If you are among the very young at heart
I have no idea who that maniac is or was as the case may be. For some reason I think it is in Spain or Italy. I like doing all that stuff on the track. Here's a clip from EDR Performance. This is one lap at Portland International Raceway. Thats my home track. After watching the first clip this seems a lot safer. http://www.edrperformance.com/ The link is at the bottom of the page. Pulsar you remind me of the "rockers" I have read about. God bless them all. Where would we speed freaks be without them? regor that is so true! As I get older I have to always remind myself to keep a young heart. It does set you free and lets you live your life to the fullest. Just don't let it kill ya!
I know I'm getting old because I know exactly how to relax my body to prepare for the impact as I'm sliding along on my ass at 90 mph. I always close my eyes right before I hit. I usually get up with little stars and planets spinning before my eyes. Then my bike finds me. Kind of like "Oops, damn it, slide, slide bang!, ouch BANG! f**k that hurt- I thhhimk Ibith my tongue!"
I was trying to keep up with one of my friends, I overcooked it on a corner, & opted to go straight ahead into a stubble field. I managed to scrub 40mph off my speed, so I only had to cope with 50mph into the field. The best part was the family having a picnic in their people carrier in the entrance to the aforementioned field. My only thought was "how much will this cost? & my poor bike!" I managed to keep her upright & rode her out of the field through another open gate! You should have seen the look on their faces. I then got headshake as I pinnned the throttle. Life is fun!! By the way my mate was on a 600 Bandit. I was on my Gixer750. How embarrassing! He is an incredibly competent rider & has few beach race wins under his belt. I managed to damage myself & my CR500 to boot on my second beach race - Oh happy days!!!
I wish. I about killed myself trying to rollerblade once. I found out that pavement not only hurts but it tastes bad too.
Hi guys, I still like the speed thing too, but at my age I need at least 4 wheels under me. Those bugs don't taste good. Did some drag racing in the early 70's but never had the chance to try bikes. Always wanted too but didn't get around to it. Jerry
Even on four wheels I can screw up, like last year doing 60 mph in a 540i head on into a Mac truck :>(
Fastfrank, did not realise you were across the water, my journey from potters bar to home is about 225miles, I spent most of the journey sat at 140mph+, not bad as the speed limit over here is only 70mph! How I never got caught is beyond me. Probably never do that again.
Neph and pulsar, you're telling me LOL. The doctors say I'll never snow ski again(i have reached speeds of over 60 mph on a pair of boards), but hey I can still play golf and flyfish. Pretty sedate stuff for you high speed bikers, huh? ;>)
This might seem a bit hard to believe but "sedate" is the feeling I get when entering a corner. There is a certain rhythm to going fast on a motorcycle around corners. Once you get going there is a certain flow to it and time seems to slow down. It is addicting. And a very happy birthday to 199 and Prisoner!!! Frank
My mate has a 17" Glastron boat, she has a 7.5 V8 Chevvy with a MASSIVE Holly carb (450BHP I think. Not the carb, the engine!)), I have skied behind her at 95% throttle (nearly 70mph!) That was awesome. Now the environmentalists have had a speed limit imposed on Lake Windermere, so skiing no more! Yes Fastfrank, You do get into a rythmn in corners. I always think of classical music when I am riding, helps keep my flow! I could ride through corners a lot faster with a pillion passenger. This is as I am only 5"7' & weigh 11 stone, so I need the weight on the back end to keep her under control! I could always scrub in the back tyre fully i.e edge to edge, & rip it to shreds, but never managed to scrub the front fully, even with counter steer! GODDAMIT!
Probably the best experience I had was 5hrs flying time in a Robinson R22 helicopter, expensive but none the less MARVELLOUS!
Thanks for the wishes Fasfrank. I would join in the discussion by I am much more a touring bike person or mountain bicycle person.
