I need to extend wlan signal from place A to place C, by purchasing a modem which will be placed in place B (obviosly place B is between places A and C).

The thing is that the modem should capture the signal and pass it on.

I don't have any idea what kind of modem there is in place A.

does anyone have any experience in this area and would guide me how to get this work.

You could also set up wireless at point A, place a repeater and point B to carry the signal to point C. You can either get a WRT54g (earlier version) and put DD-WRT on it and set it up as a wireless repeater (one antenna receives and the other transmits) or you can buy a repeater.
