Ok, I was using the evoxdash.xbe in the C drive. I changed the default.xbe to evoxdash.xbe and overwrote it. I rebooted my XBox and got this error: XBMC Fatal Error: T:\guisettings.xml, Line 0 Failed to open file What did I do wrong? I think I followed the directions, but I'm a newb at this. EDIT: When I changed the evoxdash.xbe to default.xbe, I got the 21 error and the blinking green/red lights. Did I royally screw myself over? EDIT x2: *smacks head* I forgot about the open tray deal. I just reinstalled the evox dashboard that way and the errors are gone. I still have the problem of not having the XBMC so I'm not finished yet.
Ok, download XBMC then put it in your C:\ drive. It should not be C:\XBMC. From there use XBE shortcut maker and create a shortcut named "default.xbe" and set the path name as "C:\XBMC\default.xbe". I think that sould work, my computer is broke and i'm using my freinds.
Firefoxy has me confused then. He tells me to download XBMC and put it into my C drive, but then says not to do it? When I extracted and then copied over the XBMC file to E: Apps; I noticed the default.xbe file wasn't in the parent directory, it was in a folder. Should I have moved the default.xbe into the parent directory of the XBMC folder?
well yea ftp XBMC to E:\apps or burn it onto a disc like i did http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/405943 then copy it to E:\apps
OK, this just refuses to work then. I transferred over the XBMC to my E drive. Nothing was changed. I used the xbe shortcut maker. I set the file path to e:\apps\XBMC\default.xbe and restarted. All it did was stop on the logo screen when Microsoft appears at the bottom. I think the problem is my file path for xbe shortcut maker. Should it be e:\apps\XBMC\XBMC\default.xbe because the actual .xbe file is in a folder of the main XBMC.
Oh...k. I did that already and all it does is stop it on the XBOX logo screen with Microsoft under the logo. Is it supposed to take some time to load or be quick-ish?
Would it glitch up if I install it to E if it is already on C? Edit: I have it on C and E now. So how do I remove the evoxdash safely from C?
Why do u wanna remove evox out u can have more than 1 dash board i have 4.. DVD2XBOX UnleashX XBMC BlackstormX u can have evox and launch XBMC no problem..
I don't think I need evox on both C and E. I just need it on one. And I just want XBMC for playing burned movies.
I'm not sure if you can safely remove it, but here is a backup C drive that you could probably use to overwrite and restore C to its original state. http://freakyhosting.be/ms-c-hosted-by-pirrup.rar
So in the Parent Directory, I basically would drag and drop that over C and have it overwrite? EDIT: I checked a FAQ about putting it back to retail and it says to highlight the files and just overwrite everything that way. EDIT x2: I got into a little problem. It gave me error messages, but I believe I fixed it now. When I first softmodded my xbox, I was using version 3 and made a backup. I can now get to the original dashboard.
I don't know if this will help anybody, or if it's been discussed... Short version: Run the shortcut XBE you make with a dashboard like Avalaunch to make sure that the XBE shorcut points to XBMC and runs correctly. If it does, proceed! Long version: I did a softmod on my xbox 1.6 with EvoX as my default dashboard. I installed Avalaunch as an App in EvoX because I was just testing it and didn't want to mess up my xbox. I also had XBMC as an App in EvoX. One feature I like in Avalaunch is the file manager, which lets you run any xbe and test it. (why doesn't EvoX have it?) So... after installing MC360 (awesome skin so far, in the past hour I've used it!) I followed the tut. I didn't want to end up with a dead XBOX, so I copied my XBE shortcut to XBMC to my xbox and then ran the file with Avalaunch. Seeing that it ran XBMC correctly, I was fairly certain that it was correct, so I went and overwrote the default.xbe in the \dashboard directory. Worked brilliantly! Hope this helps somebody. Testing first saved my ass.
i didnt need to do those steps in order to make my xbmc the default dash, just loaded up xbmc boot disc and browsed harddrive for installed ver then moved it to the c: and renamed default .xbe to evoxdash.xbe
