    Yeah they are not in my WalMart yet Doodmar.I can still get the older version PS2 still.Hey Ataxonu I haven't tried the ps2os yet.I have been using the ARMax Evo cd and booting it up that way with my pen drive.I was thinking earlier like you said make a sub directory and put files in there,trying to input the files for cdloaderV7_beta5.2 mainly.I think if I make another folder,and then in the KL.DAT file label it something like this X=mc0\BADATA-SYSTEM\CDLOADER,this is what I would name the folder for the cdloader I was going to use\CDLOADER.ELF,the elf file of the cdloader=cdloaderV7_beta5.2,specific name of the cdloader,something like this it might work.If you build another directory and put an ELF file in there you would have to give the KL.DAT file the location of the FOLDER you are making for the seperate ELF file I bet.I never attempted it,so not sure if that works either.I think jonjakjam said it doesn't work,but I haven't tried it yet so probably he is probably right.I have no clue on the ps2os system you are working with,maybe if I messed with it I could help you out more.What where you trying to do Ataxonu as for making another sub directory for the exploit.

    Yo, ok enough of wasting CD-Rs lol... I'm going to try this USB method of install exploit (note I got it to work fine with standard independence installer method)... Anyways... I now am trying the MAX EVO USB trick... I downloaded the newest version of ps2 save builder which I guess has a new ability to directly save your file as a "AR MAX V3 .MAX" save file... I used that to create my max file, copied it to the flash drive, AR sees the usb drive and the system configuration file just fine... It seems to uncrush it ok... BUT I shut down PS2 reboot, go into the memory card, and find that the systemconfg file it uncrushed is "corrupted"...and it won't trigger with my trigger disk... I can't figure out what is going wrong... Anyways what files do I not need to put into the .max save (I think you can't use file folders with the ps2 save builder also)

    Are these files I can/should delete from the standard method image...

    1) SYSTEM.CNF (the one that have to patch with LBA)
    2) CDVD.IRX
    3) EXPINST.ELF

    These are a the files that are right now in my in the ps2 save builder .max save...

    BOOT.ELF (PS2MENU 2.6)
    SYSTEM.CNF
    CDLOADER.ELF
    CDVD.IRX
    CONFIG.DAT (IP CONFIG FOR EXECFTPS)
    CSL.ELF
    EXECFTPS.ELF
    EXPINST.ELF
    FAP_SRV.ELF
    HDA.ELF
    HDLOADER.ELF
    ICON.SYS
    INFORMATION.TXT (A INFO TEXT FILE FOR ME)
    IOMANX.IRX
    IPCONFIG.DAT
    KL.DAT
    KL2.ELF
    MCFORMAT.ELF
    MCLOADER.ELF
    NAPLINK.ELF
    NPM-2301.IRX (IRX FILE FOR NAPLINK)
    NPM-USBD.IRX (USBD IRX FILE FROM NAPLINK)
    PS2DEV9.IRX
    PS2IP.IRX
    PS2KLO4.ELF
    PS2LINK.ELF
    PS2LINK.IRX
    PS2LINK.ico
    PS2LINK_FORCEMC.ELF
    PS2LOAD.ELF
    PS2MEDIA.ELF
    PS2MEDIA-K-31.ELF
    PS2MENU26.ELF (IS BOOT.ELF ASWELL)
    PS2NETFS.IRX
    PS2OS.ELF
    PS2OS.APP
    PS2SMAP.IRX
    SNES_EMU.ELF
    TITLE.db
    UNRAR.IRX
    USBD.IRX
    USBDNPM.IRX
    USBINIT.IRX
    USBKB.IRX
    USBKEYBD.IRX
    USBMLOAD.IRX
    ps2client.exe (wasn't sure to include: from ps2os)
    start.bat (wasn't sure to include: from ps2os)

    Actually you will want to save the exploit file as a .xps file when you use the savebuilder.Then use the .xps to max converter program man.I think this is where you are going wrong with it man.When you go into the savebuilder also make sure you click on the TEXT button on the top,type in Your SystemConfiguration in the three lines present.Then after you put your files in,go to where it says save as,and type in whatever you want to save it as.Now open up the xps to max convertor and convert the xps file to a .max file and it should work.All you do is put the file on your max drive.Then plug it in the PS2,turn it on.Put the ARMax Evo cd in,go to where it says memory card manager.When you are in there click on your max drive,and press the X button on the exploit file.It will give it a check mark right next to it.When you have done that scroll down the right side and find uncrush to memory card.Now press uncrush to the memory card you want to save it to,and it should work.I followed these steps,and got it to work this way.Make sure you don't have a system configuration file on the memory card you uncrushing to either man,it will not work if there is one.You will want to delete the one that is already on there,then uncrush the exploit to the memory card that you are trying to put it on.

    Well tried both ways... I only have the newest ps2 save builder (the newest that includes direct .max support) anyways... I have just now tried creating a .xps save then tried to open it up in xpstomax converter, but the converter does absolutly nothing... I selecct my .xps file and select open and then the window closes with nothing listed in the converter (I wonder if that new ps2 builder is fed up)???

    Ok, so I have determined that the 7.0 Save Builder is Defective... Now a few more problems lol

    1) Another user had this same problem: in xpstomax converter when you load the .xps is tells you that the sjis NEW_FILE and it is suppose to be Your SystemConfiguration, how do I change that... (The other three are Your SystemConfiguration like they should be)

    2) The sucker is not "corrupted" anymore, but it won't trip when I use my psx1 disc... Same TITLE.db with 800 names as I used before with the SLUS for Space Invaders (my trip disk)...

    [[bold]UPDATE AS OF DECEMBER 2005[/bold]]: You should CHECK THE LAST PAGE OF THIS THREAD for updates and the latest information, or check out http://console.iscentral.net - If you'd like to make your xps file or max file then use INDEPENDENCE COMPILER 4.3 which is on the site. Also a new version of Exploit sender for sending your file over a network will be available on console.iscentral.net shortly

    Ok save yourself some time, go to my site and get the "xps starter pack" which I put together from one of zxspeky's saves. You just edit that in ps2 savebuilder (the old version which is also downloadable there) then convert that.. I dont know why people get that New_File problem but this solves it.. You basically just change boot.elf to the file you want, save it, convert it, put it on your usb drive and go and uncrush it.. If you are still having problems go into the articles section and see "Making your own max save exploit" (I wrote it so its good :p)

    Oh yes url http://wirelesssupplies.net/ps2

    Hey alex, I stumbled upon your site a few hours ago and have been using it as a guide, but your file system is BEDATA and not BADATA which leads me to believe that your PAL? If so will anything in that starter pack not work with my USA system (ofcourse changing the BEDATA to BADATA) and yah that NEW_FILE this is weird lol, cuz when the starter pack is opened it is ok with system config. but when making on my with save builder it is always NEW_FILE...

    Anyways, what about that PAL think and what is that IOP.IRX file???

    Yes have u tried it? It might work.. if not then just change it to BADATA and save it and see if that works.. It should allow you to change it now.

    The trick is to make an official save first and save it to ur usb key using AR max, put that on your computer, and edit it from that.. it has some "extra details" I suppose :)

    Anyway just rename it to BADATA and save and try that.. :)

    I havent had a problem with 0.7 Ataxonu?
    IOP.IRX is used for cogswap loader.

    Im guessing that the problem here is that your TITLE.db is lower and UPPER case. try changing it to "TITLE.DB" =)

    Well this is the same TITLE.db I used for the standard independence installer exploit and it worked there... I was concerned aswell with the 800+ names TITLE.db, but it comes that way... 7.0 Has got to be buggy, cuz I tried both the .max and the .xps -> max converter method and both don't work...when the file is uncrushed onto the memory card (it leaves it as a corrupted system config file)

    I think what would help me the most guys if you were to please post your exact list of programs and files in your usb exploit...maybe there is one file in there that is goofing it up... Hey do I need cdvd.irx expinst.elf???

    you dont need CDVD OR EXPINST.
    In the list you posted i noticed you dont have a history file??
    This could be the reason your system config is always corrupt?
    Also have you tried creating your own title.db?

    ATTN: If trying to use the max usb method DO NOT USE THE title.db (small letters don't work) FROM THE 800+ SAVES FILE!!!

    I created my TITLE.DB (all caps) with my SLUS and now it works, woot...

    I was wondering if any1 knows what the HDD partion (working volume) HDD0:\ __Boot

    is?

    and why I can't delete it???

    Thats 2 underscores btw...

    I can't get this dang thing to work - can someone help me?

    Using an NTSC USA v5 Ps2 with Swap Magic CD version as the boot disc.

    I can get it to INSTALL the exploit just fine.

    I'm using Crash Bandicoot as the trigger disc. I made the Title.db with Title.db maker. I changed the CNF file in the root directory's LBA to 12231 just like the guide says. Here's what my KL.DAT file says:

    AUTO=10
    []=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/PS2MEDIA.ELF;PS2 MediaPlayer 1.50
    /\=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/MCLOADER.ELF;MCLoader
    O=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/PS2LOAD.ELF;CDLoader v7 5.2
    X=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/HDADVANC.ELF;HDAdvance
    R1=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/CSL.ELF;CogSwapLoader by Hermes
    R2=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/PS2LINK.ELF;PS2Link 1.23
    R3=
    L1=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/HDLOADER.ELF;HDD Loder Free
    L2=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/MCFORMAT.ELF;MCFormat
    L3=

    Here's a picture of the root directory of my build in PS2 CDgen:

    http://www.geocities.com/sabinraijin/exploit2.jpg

    Looks ok, right?

    Now, here's a picture of my FILES director:

    http://www.geocities.com/sabinraijin/exploit1.jpg

    Again, I'm fairly certain this is EXACTLY as it's supposed to be, in accordance with how I wrote my KL.DAT file.

    Also, I should mention that I've tried BOTH using the original BOOT.ELF file included with the keylauncher CD, AND I've also tried downloading the new version of PS2menu and changing the filename to BOOT.ELF like it says in this thread.

    So here's what happens:

    Like I said, it installs just fine. It installs all the files, then says "Installation Complete!". So after noticing it doesn't do anything else, I power down my PS2, pop in Crash Bandicoot, power it up, and.....

    Nothing at all. The game doesn't start, as it's not supposed to. But the exploit doesn't start either. WTF? I just get utter blackness, that's it. I've tried this around 3 or 4 times with the SAME EXACT results no matter which BOOT.ELF file I'm using or how I write my KL.DAT file.

    Any help would be rockin'.

    I see what happened with the exploit for you.When you compiled the disc right,your order was wrong.The order in your FILES folder is what I am talking about,this is the order you have it right:

    KL.DAT
    CDLOADER.ELF
    CSL.ELF
    HDADVANC.ELF
    HDLOADER.ELF
    MCFORMAT.ELF
    MCLOADER.ELF
    PS2LINK.ELF
    PS2LOAD.ELF
    PS2MEDIA.ELF
    IOMANX.IRX
    PS2DEV9.IRX
    PS2IP.IRX
    PS2LINK.IRX
    PS2SMAP.IRX
    UNRAR.IRX
    IPCONFIG.DAT
    BOOT.ELF
    SYSTEM.CNF

    The way you want to fix the layout of your files should be the following:

    KL.DAT
    BOOT.ELF
    CDLOADER.ELF
    CSL.ELF
    HDADVANC.ELF
    HDLOADER.ELF
    MCFORMAT.ELF
    MCLOADER.ELF
    PS2LINK.ELF
    PS2LOAD.ELF
    PS2MEDIA.ELF
    IPCONFIG.DAT
    IOMANX.IRX
    PS2DEV9.IRX
    PS2IP.IRX
    PS2LINK.IRX
    PS2SMAP.IRX
    UNRAR.IRX
    SYSTEM.CNF

    Another thing you need to do before moving on to compile the exploit right is open your KL.DAT file with wordpad or text document.It will give you some text that looks like this:

    AUTO=10
    []=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/PS2MEDIA.ELF;PS2 MediaPlayer 1.50
    /\=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/MCLOADER.ELF;MCLoader
    O=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/HDLOADER.ELF;HDD Loder Free
    X=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/HDADVANC.ELF;HDAdvance
    R1=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/CSL.ELF;CogSwapLoader by Hermes
    R2=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/PS2LINK.ELF;PS2Link 1.23
    R3=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/SNES_EMU.ELF;SNES
    L1=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/PS2LOAD.ELF;CDLoader v7 5.2
    L2=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/MCFORMAT.ELF;MCFormat
    L3=mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/PGEN.ELF;PGEN V1.2.5

    For every .ELF file you add in your FILES folder make sure you assign them to your KL.DAT file.The way you want to do that is find a empty button that hasn't been used.For instance,lets pick L3 to use alright.The line should be like this when you start off:L3=nothing in here,it is left blank

    Now you will want to type this in the blank space:

    L3=mc0:\BADATA-SYSTEM\PS2LOAD.ELF;cdloaderV7_beta5.2
    L3=your button
    mc0:=the memory card
    hdd0:=the harddrive if you wanna run the exploit off the harddrive
    BADATA-SYSTEM=this is your system file,this one in particular is for NTSC version.If you are running a PAL console you might want to switch to BEDATA-SYSTEM.If you are running a JAP console you will want to change this to BIDATA-SYSTEM.
    PS2LOAD.ELF=this is the .ELF file,doesn't have to be in a specific button to make it work,but it has to be assigned to any buttons that are available.
    ;cdloaderV7_beta5.2=is the description of the .ELF file.You will want to be as brief as possible with this.

    The mc0: is used for memory card where hdd0: is used for harddrive technique.You have this pretty much on point,I don't see where you went wrong on this.I am just making it more clear for others that have problems with editing the KL.DAT file.

    All you have to do sabinrain is fix the files in the FILES folder,and you should be good to go.

    Peace L-Burna

    Ok, I set up all the files correctly and made the image. I loaded the image onto my PS2 hdd using HDLoader, and ran the program. It runs, but an error saying "Failed to load CDVD.irx" comes up. Any suggestions?

    Where it has this in the FILES folder:

    IOMANX.IRX
    PS2DEV9.IRX
    PS2IP.IRX
    PS2LINK.IRX
    PS2SMAP.IRX
    UNRAR.IRX

    Your module files,place the CDVD.IRX file in there.When you place it in there make sure you put it above the UNRAR.IRX file also.Your layout should be like this then:

    IPCONFIG.DAT
    IOMANX.IRX
    PS2DEV9.IRX
    PS2IP.IRX
    PS2LINK.IRX
    PS2SMAP.IRX
    CDVD.IRX
    UNRAR.IRX
    SYSTEM.CNF

    Try this out,and if it doesn't work I am sorry.I would try it out myself,but I don't have the harddrive for my PS2 :(

    Actually, my files in my FILES folder used to be in that order - I just so happened to take that snapshot in a different compilation - I sorta rushed it just to show you what I was putting in the folder.

    So you're saying that no matter what, no buttons can be left blank? I MUST put something in L3 and R3 buttons?

    To tell the truth, the only program I really care about is CDloader. I already use it for most of my games via swap magic and Devil May Cry as a ToC disc, but I figured this would speed up the process each time.

    But yeah, like I said - originally, my files in the FILES directory were just as your tutorial described they should be, and the very same problem arose. Although I really don't think it matters what order the files are in - the program will search for the files no matter what. Unless, of course, the program is set to look for certain files in certain sectors of the CD.

    Either way, it's no big deal if I can't get it to work, but I'm just wondering why I'm the only one having this problem. Getting the exploit to install was easy as shit, but this blackness problem has me stumped =/
