You can swap drives, but it's a painful process and it only works with two types of drives!

Your best bet would be to simply get another Xbox drive and straight swap it!

I personally buy broken Xboxs from eBay for the part I need, then I have spares of everything else too!

Glad to help! Small increments like you used tend to be most successful! Strange that it was a Samsung though...

Just one Question. I´m new at all this, Just want to know if it is possible to replace the original XBOX DVD drive with ANY other drive, that is not either phillips or samsung, such as sony or anyother one.

    Thank you.

The only plug nd play drives are the original Xbox drives!

You can use a particular LG drive , but it needs to be heavily modified!

Well after looking at all the pictures none of them relate to my drive and I cant find the pot screw. There is a sticker on the bottom of the laser that reads "SOH-DX1" which I assume is the laser model number but if you can help me out with this thanks

Your best bet is to poke around with the multimeter on the screews that 'could' be the pot! You'll find one with a reading similar to the other, that'll be the right one! Probably about 1800ohms

I have a samsung SDG-605...i have the same SOH-DX1 sticker....Ok on the side of the laser is a small silver screw that i just now found and it looks similar to the ones found in other drives but my multimeter is kinda old and also it dont help it reads Mega and Kilo Ohms making a proper readout painful. but i can set the Range i want to be Kilo Mega or basic Ohms so that is no issue my issue is IS THIS THE SCREW!!! i get some funny stuff on my screen like IDK 50 MO...meaning 50 millions Ohms...not a good thing i know lol

I found the POT for the Samsung with a SOH-DX1 on the bottom of the laser it is the silver screw in the side of the laser....Be patient with it because it is really difficult to touch the right spot to get a real readout i am bringing mine down from 1245 maybe that will help

Thanks for this great post. I have a Samsung SOH-D12 laser that I just bought online. It is supposed to be new. I was told it is interchangable with a D16. My question is: where is the anti-static solder, and which screw is the pot adjustment. I am skeptical as to wether or not this is a new laser. I need to be sure I don't have to remove solder before I try it. The pot screws are not in the same place as a D16 laser.

Does anyone know how they would calibrate a LG DVD recorder DR165 ? Thank you. All of a sudden it started saying unknown disc and or its dirty or damaged.

    Thank you
