Is there any software (preferably free!) that would enable me to rip 'copy protected' CD's? I use Nero 5.5 for burning CD-R's on my Lite-on CD writer.

I want to be able to rip CD's in wav format (not MP3's). Please help...

audiograpper (if it exist anymore) could be able to do it. And I think Sound Forge is capable of ripping, but it of course costs...

I use C-Dex to rip music from regular music cds.
Got it from http://www.Zdnet.com and it's free.
Will let you select if you want the music to be wav or mp3 format.
    A handy little freebie.
    Good Luck.

Exact Audio Copy and LAME do the job just fine as will good ole AudioGrabber. either or can copy protected audion cds, you just have to set the settings right.

acoustica mp3 cd burning software will also rip cd's.
Each track takes about 30secs.There is a trial version available to try
They also have numerous audio converters

Ripping "copy protected" audio cd's is hardware dependent m8. Use your Litey to extract and if you can't, then you can't defeat that that audio cd protection. If you can extract, you can defeat, if you can't, your SOL m8. Plexy and later model Litey drives are good for defeating most audio cd protections. I use EAC (Exact Audio Copy)

long time no see Shoey. yea see someone else agrees with me rhat EAC can defeats cd audio protections. AudioGrabber 1.8x should be able to do it too, but as Shoey mentioned, hardware affects the ability to extract / rip the cd.

You got that right m8. Any program that can rip a audio cd can get the job done as long as you have the "right hardware" to defeat the audio cd protection (Key2Audio, Cactus Data Shield, many others). Many audio "geeks" like Plexy drives...

Hmm, does that mean that if I can't already rip the copy protected CD with my existing Lite-On CD writer using Nero 5.5...I won't be able to do it even with a change in software?

Or can I 'upgrade' my Lite-on CD writer by upgrading the firmware or something which would enable it to rip those copy-protected disks??? I got a Lite-on 48x24x48 CD writer...

    1. The firmware might help
    2. The Litey48 should be able to handle most things it encounters
