I'm new to not only Macs but creating DVD backups as well. I've read the excellent guide by Mediaguru and I have a newbie question: at what point can I just watch a movie I've copied onto my computer? I have 250 gig G5 to save files onto.
I've gathered that "ripping" is how you bring the dvd files onto your computer. My refined question is: after MTR, is the format watchable? Or is this altogether a different process if I just want to create a backup dvd on my hardrive to watch? Please advise. To my understanding, a DVD ranges around 9 gigs.
Start the application "DVD Player" found in your Applications folder. Click file on the MENU and select Open Video_TS Folder. Find your way to the Video_TS Folder created by MTR. Click Choose and click Play. If there is a DVD in your optical drive DVD Player will automatically start playing it. You will have to stop that before you do the above. The above is for Panther, in Tiger it would read Open Media File.
to answer the other question.. the movies arent 9gb. they normally arent that big. if you use dvd2onex you can compress them down and save yourself some space.
