I have tow PCs with the HP DVD Writer 840d in them. Online HP shows a firmware update of 03-2006 68JH. I'm not sure what version I have...how/where can I find out ? I see HP has a util called HP MyDrive but no CDs came with my units except Nero. Any ideas on how to find out ? Hi thekochs Since you have Nero in SmartStart under application go to Tools (ToolKit in Nero 6) and pick the InfoTool. Have the HP drive picked in the drop down. In the drive tab there's a field there that lists the current firmware version. Or in device manager (right click on my computer>properties>hardware tab) click on the + next to dvd/cd drives. Right click on the HP and go to properties then the details tab. The version will be listed to the right. In the pic below the firmware version is 1.02
