hi, these aren't problems as such just somethings that i would like an answer to

1.i thought divx/xvid offered superior compression than mpeg for movie files, how come then when i convert them to mpeg using the same bitrates the file size is more or less the same?
    2. i have a svcd file, when i load it in avicodec it says:
    -794 MB (1.14 GB), duration: 0:59:07, type: MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 80 %
    - video: 1.4 GB, 2530 Kbps

what does this mean? because the file is actually 800 mb, and i can convert it at half the quality stated and it is the same

lastly, the resolution is 480 x 576, what resolution do i need to convert it to to achieve best results? will any work? i'm dnt kno all that much about resolutions

    TIA!

Ok, im gonna try to answer some of these.

Firstly dvd resolution is 720 x 480. Thats full screen NTSC.

Dependson your regionbut that is standard.

Secondly, I have experienced similar problems when transcoding for xvid/divx to mpeg2. What are you using to encode the dvd's? TMPGENC?

    A little more clarification please.
