I just got a dvd burner and I used Shrink and Nero to burn a dvd. Every time I try to burn, it writes 10% of the video file and then aborts because of an error. What can I do?

It says it is a write error. I am not really sure.

Do you have any other programs for burning installed other than Nero? If so, this may create a conflict and cause Nero to not function properly.

Have you looked on the website of the maker of your burner to see if there is a firmware upgrade that might fix whatever problem there might be with the current one?

    Maybe try ForceASPI?

Give us a little more info about the error too, so we can help a little better. Good Luck!

    Well things you can do:

    1) Update your burners firmware
    2) Make sure you burner is you master drive on it's IDE cable
    3) Make sure you IDE settings are set to DMA
    4) Update your aspi layer, ellizit gave a great suggestion ForceASPI. It's the easiest to install and can go on any O/S.

Also what would help us is post your system specs. O/S, processor, ram, HD, free HD space?

I think that I got it to work. I slowed the burning dowm to 4x and that seems to have done it. It skips a little in my stand-alone dvd player but at least I got the burner to work. Thanks for all your help.

If the movie skips towards the end of the film, you might have a problem of burning too close to the outside edge of the disc. To fix this, go to the Shrink preferences and set the disc size to custom, then enter 4400 mb as the size. This will "shrink" the movie some more, but keep the data from being burnt to the outter edge of the disc.

Another fix for this is quality media. I personally use Ritek G04 DVD-R's, and I don't have any movies that skip.

Also, you can always slow the speed of the burner down some more and see if that fixes it (if you can stand the longer wait).

    Good Luck!

    Maslocha,

Have you check your ide setting? Also you could try different media.

If available your ide settings should be DMA. To check right click my computer, then properties, then click hardware then device manager. Look for IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.. click the plus and right click primary ide controller, then preferences. Under the advanced tab you see current transfer mode. Make sure they say DMA if available. If you make any changes, reboot. Also if they already say DMA, try updating your aspi layer.

Are you "playing" on your computer while you are burning? That's not usually a good idea.
