this problem has developed since changing to vista, but even when i put xppro back on, same deal....now i got vista back on.
every once in a while a dvd works, but for the most part after a "successful" burn the dvd is still BLANK! i dont get it? every burn proggie does the same thing..no errors, just a blank dvd. i should say cds burn/play fine. 2 burners, with both fw's up to date. the only thing i notice diff't is when burning the thing seem to hang longer on lead in/lead out. any ideas??????
---BTW THESE are iso's i have created a long time ago

I'm having similar problems. Since getting my new PC I can't figure out how to burn DVDs. I have shrink and dvd decryptor installed and (I think) they're working fine. On my old PC I would use DVD shrink then burn in Nero Express. I don't have Nero on my new PC and am not sure how to get my movies to burn.

On the plus side I have a lot of new coasters :(

So far I've only been able to burn Maxell DVD-R with Imgburn. Every time I put a Windata DVD-R in I get an I/O Error.

What media should I use wiht imgburn?

The rule here is to use the best media that is recognized by your burners and that's MIJs (Made in Japan) disks. MIJs are most recognized by most burners and that makes them so compatible that it's unwise NOT to use them if you want successful burns! I buy Taiyo Yuden (which my burners love and I consider the best disks out there!) from online stores like Supermediastore.com, Rima.com, Meritline.com and Newegg.com. If you go in stores just check the label of the box or spindle and make sure it says MIJ on it.... some brands that have MIJs are Sony, Maxell, Fuji... just check the label. Verbatim is another top notch disk but NOT MIJ and the only exception to the MIJ rule. try better media and then see if you have better results.

Of course the one big overlooked part in this.. Vista..
Maybe the drm is kicking in and not allowing any video content to be burned.. That would explain everything.

But then again.. on my lists windata disks aren't even rated.. below junk.

well that media cheap as it is, always worked w/ the same burners b4...so it aint that. and remember i had the same prob when i changed back to xp. new thing i found yesterday, if i take the same disc image that caused my burn errors (trying to burn the iso), and put it back thru shrink set output as ts folders THEN burn...they play fine. go figure

I disagree with you on that, jonesg! cheap media is just that.... you can buy a spindle of 100 and find that some might not be like the others! Their quality control is not up to par as with Taiyo YUden, Sony, Maxell and others! And using the cheap stuff will certainly show up why it's crappy sooner or later! Keep using it and you will find out why.... oh, by the way, tell me when it's 5 yrs down the road and you have skipping, pixelations, or freezings while trying to watch the movie! They don't last..... then try to re rip from the disk and you'll see why those cheap disks are crap! good luck with that.

yeah thanks. i am using sony discs currently. and i may not know a ton abou it, but i do know 2 things: if sony puts as much quality control into those discs as they do their dvd players?, or other products..i consider them "cheap" and secondly i know that the tdk i burned "jack and daxter" (ps2) on 5 years ago...still plays/reads fine..2-3x a week

I'm sorry I'm getting mixed up here......... ex5168 hijacked the thread and I thought you were using those crappy Windata DVD-Rs! Not Sony! this is a perfect example why forum rules tell you not to HIJACK a thread......sorry jonesg........ but I still stand on my reply about media! if you use crappy media and just because it worked before doesn't mean those same brand disks will always work because of outsourcing and different manufacturers making the same disks. Also crappy media just doesn't last. I have some Memorex disks that can't be re ripped after a few years. just so you know.

Hopefully more newbies won't hijack a thread and make other members confused on what question your answering!

you shouldn't come looking for help with your problems than argue with the people you want to help you... as far as your TDK goes... you got lucky

lucky???? for 6 years lucky? im not trying to start any arguments, but what i see from alot of people, here and elsewhere, is get ty or get verbatim. i dont dispute their better quality over poorer media types at all....but it aint my problem. neither is hardware since both drives went at the same time. the software SHOULDNT be bad because every once in a while a movie works. i think some other prog is tying something i need up. the 1 constant in all this is that "lead in" is much slower than it was say 3 months ago, and "lead out" is slow when it works, but mostly thats when it crashes. and sometimes imgburn says error closing disc, when i hit retry anywhere from 6-8x it completes....but sometimes they play, sometimes they dont. no rhyme or reason to it really...but IT AINT THE MEDIA

so if it's not the media, and it's not the hardware... I can tell you it's not not software or the DVD, what is the problem? Sounds like everything is as perfect as it ever can be. The reason that media is classed poorly is because they aren't consistant. You could get 100 great TDK, or Memorex discs and have a great time with them, then the next batch you buy could be 80% crappy discs. But since media aint you problem, I don't know what it is.

I have to agree with the rest and I'm also guilty of pushing Verbatims and TY's, but I also agree that if you have no problems with the Memorex and TDK's out there then by all means stick with what works for you. The thing is this...the TDK's you used 5 years ago might not be made by the same manufacturer as the ones you are buying today. These companys outsource quite a bit. Also TDK has discontinued manufacturing DVD recordable media, or so the news goes...and yet they are still widely available.

Anywho...I think this is more than likely, as you say, a software problem. Would it be possible to post a burn log from Imgburn? It could provide a few clues as to what might be going wrong.
