i know re-installing windows sounds horrible but after it is done, things usually run sooo smooth!!

Ok I have found out that it is not my computer because I just burned a video cd that was already in mpeg format so It has to be the AVI files. So I don't think that I would need to re-install windows.

I'd love to know why it would crash right when it starts to encode though hmm, just as a matter of interest, what codecs u got installed?

I don't even know a bunch are installed on my PC but I think the one that makes it able to be viewed is a divx codec the weird thing is that I can't play this movie with a divx player it always freezes but I can play it with windows media or kazaa theatre or quick time

OK every one thanks for all the replies on this but I found the problem, my computer was overheating and it couldn't handle a load at that temp to encode something so big so it would shut down to save all the files. So I have burned it succesfully except it plays but the sound stops 10 seconds in to it what can I do about that

    hi

you mean asus a7n? i have the a7v

there bioses have shutdown safety if cpu overheats they shut down! you set it in bios! but if it is shutting down due to this you need better cooling...

i know this as i'm an overclocker and follow asus mobos...

    Thx....

Just curious... what is your nominal running temperature and what does it jump to when you start to encode?

Those are some nice temps ur running.... what kind of cooling are you using? (btw are those mobo temps or cpu temps, i would assume cpu)

I do have the RAID version of the A7V333 but the raid gave me a bunch of problems..... i.e. raid controller failure = lose 80Gb.... :( dunno. ANother problem with it is that it cannot boot drives (i.e., cd drives attatched to the raid controllers detect boot cds but dont actually boot -- argh!).

So in the end i just gave up on the raid (i didnt actually need the raid i just needed to have more than 4 IDE devices -- dont need the raid cuz i go through hard drives too quickly hehe).
