I'm new to all this (and loving it), I'm downloading programs at the suggestion of a complete stranger! I'm inviting strange torrents back to my apartment!

How do you protect yourself (your computer)?

What you need is a IP blocker. The one that i know of is Peer Guardian. Here is a link

    http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

I hope that helps. Also make sure you post your threads in the right forum rooms :) I will ask this to be moved.

Before people forget about this, I too use torrents, and I was wondering if I was missing something to help me stay safe?
    What is this all about?

    Thanks!
    Corn

    @corn

Mate what peer guardian does is blocks your ip address out for others to trace it. Go to the website and read about the software :) Its ahandy little tool :)

Ok thanks, does this also work for Limewire?

    EDIT:
I downloaded it, and I installed, and now I allowed the HTTP, so I can access the internet.
Can anyone give me some pointers so I can get the "feel" of the program a little more?

    Thanks!
    Corn

It works for limewire. This program just sits in the system tray and then u just have to update it on a regular basis so it has all the other ip addresses so it can block incoming and outgoing addresses. If that makes any sense.

Ok, and also I am on AIM, and it keeps logging IP addresses, how do I know if the IP it logs is mine or someones elses?

    Thanks!

The IP Address it logs is the many pages you visit. You can clear this by clicking. "Clear Log" It's as simple as that. :)

I am not sure about tracking it back. The only thing i can suggest is too track back the sites you visited with the history section of the browser to see where you have gone in the past.
