Please can someone help, i have a toshiba SD-R6372 dvd burner drive in my laptop, up until 2 days ago it worked fine and has since stopped and keeps saying burn process failed on the blank media wasting discs. Has anyone any ideas, i have reinstalled xp and all programs but still no luck, pls can someone help its really bugging me now. thanks
No i havent tried cleaning the lens its only 2 months old, surely it doesnt need cleaning, any more ideas or do you think i should try cleaning it?
What brand/make are your discs? What software are you using to burn with? Does the burn process fail at the same point during the burn, or anytime at any point during the burn?
The brand of discs i am using are infiniti professional, they did work, i burned loads with these and they still work on my desktop just not my laptop. They have just stopped burning for some reason and it keeps stopping at different points of buring on different films , not at the same time. Any other ideas.
I am using nero and dvd shrink, like i say though they did work up until a few days ago and ive changed nothing.
Do you use the drive to 'rip' the dvd to your HD? If so, check in device manager/IDE Controller/Advanced that it is set to DMA and not PIO, if it is in PIO, uninstall the IDE controller, reboot and reinstall to revert back to DMA. Also make sure your HD is also set to DMA aswell........... What speed are the discs rated at, and what speed are attempting to burn? How are you burning within Nero - settings/options etc? Are you multi-tasking at all during the burn? How much/type of RAM have you installed? Have you tried on RW discs? Have you tried the other format - ie +R or -R? Also copy your Nero log here, so we can have a look at it. BTW:Edit your serial number out of the log BEFORE posting - Near the top of the log I think.............
Thanks a lot for your help, i have tried the 3 different brands, infiniti samaraui, infiniti profesional and memorex and all 3 use to work but now dont. I just tried pcworlds packard bell rw disc and that works, could you perhaps explain this and what other discs are cheap that will work if the ones i use to dont anymore. thanks. just one more thing aswell all my dvds play fine on my 2 dvd players but stop after about 10 mins on my pc, any ideas there please?
I know that Memorex are a little below par when it comes to quality, many other members have also encountered issues with them. RE:Infiniti, I have never tried them, so could not comment on the quality of them, however I do know that Packard Bell produce some good quality media. Which format are you using, the + or the - ? Generally the cost of dvd's are coming down in price all the time, and the best ones to use for compatibilty are -R format.(also slightly cheaper) That is actually quite a good sign that your burner does not particularly like the media you are using......... Good media to go for are usually: Ritek GO4 Brand Taiyo Yueden TDK Packard Bell I only use the Ritek GO4 type 4x, as these give me the best results, and are easy on the wallet..... Hope this helps................
Once again thanks a lot for your help, im going to order some ritek discs and give them a try. Ill let you know how i get on.
