Since the olympic games are on and the good old bbc (bbc.co.uk) is streaming it over the net, I thought it will be a good idea to capture some of the highlights (ie.woman's beach volleyball, synchronize swimming... It's only natural :) But not being familiar with the software, I encounter some problem. I seem to be able to save the .rm file (rtsp://rmlivev8geo.bbc.net.uk/farm/*//live24/news/olympics5.rm
    )
, but when I play the saved file, it only shows me about 2 seconds of clips and freeze but file keep playing. I seem to have problem captureing radio (bbc.co.uk radio stations, http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/ram/dsatg2.ram
)aswell. Any ideas? please let me know. thanks!!

Live Real Media video streams are a problem for streaming media recording software. On demand Real Media or Windows Media video and live Windows Media video record better. You can find more information about this in the FAQ section from the link in my signature.

    Your live radio stream.
    rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/6music/live/6music_dsat_g2.ra
Normally live Real Audio streams are not a problem. This stream could be recorded but would not play in RealPlayer10 for me. I could use StreamBox Ripper to convert the recorded stream to MP3, which would play without problems.

Anyway you will more and better information at the site below. It is dedicated to only streaming media recording.

Hi there and thanks you very much for your help. After I post the original thread, I keep on searching and found something that works, I am now having a good time recording the live corverage for the olympic games using NetTransport2, It's great! It does what I want it to do anyway :) After playing around for hours with real player, I figure out the way to get the right streaming address for LIVE radio , but still having a problem getting the address for non-live onces ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/classical.shtml?cotw_mon ), I will very much appreciate it if you can give a a couple of pointers. Thanks for your help!!
    your,
    Ed

The easiest way to find stream URL's is to use Project URL Snooper. See that FAQ.

    Open player.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/classical.shtml?cotw_mon
Project URL Snooper finds stream URL.
    rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio3/cotw_mon.ra?start=0:00

    Another way.

    Open player.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/classical.shtml?cotw_mon
Click View and click Source or right click and click View Source.

The source code for the player will open in Notepad.
Look in the source code for the redirector URL.
BBC uses mostly RPM and some RAM redirectors.

Click Edit and click Find and enter RPM and click Find next. You will find this redirector.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/rpms/cotw_mon.rpm

You can download that redirector and open it with notpad and the stream URL will be in the source code.
    rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio3/cotw_mon.ra?start=0:00

Thanks for your prompt reply. Can you tell me if there any other way finding the redirector not using Project URL Snooper since it's not free, and if so, will you be kind enought to give a step-by step guide (I am not too good with computer :) I've been quite happy with download the olympic games wiht netTransport2, but there seems to be another problem. it stop downloading by it self.(ie. I will leave it 2 download the live stream and it will stop random period of times) any idea? please let me know.

Thank you very much for you help!

    yours,
    Ed

    Project URL Snooper is FREE.

I gave you another method to find the redirector and stream URL.

Live streams sometimes stop. They may do that to drop the connections if they have too many stream going and want to get rid of those that are not actively watching it. It's a good way to reduce the bandwidth.
    Start recording again.

hi there, for some reason, NetTransport2 is associating it self to every download links on a web page. Any idea how to disassociate it?

    thanks!

Right click on the Net Transport icon in the tool bar notification area.

    Uncheck Monitor Browser Click.
You might also want to uncheck Drop Zone. I never use that either.

You can always right click on a link and will have menu options to download with Net Transport.

When attempting to download video highlights from nfl.com/fieldpass, I clicked on the link, which opened the Realplayer. Then I pressed ctrl I, which gave me a source code, which I pasted into the Streambox (ain't real clear how all that is supposed to work, by the way - why do people write software without directions?). According to the log, it downloads for 3 seconds, then gives the message, "Unknown RTSP command; oh well.", and then stops. Huh? What is going on?

    Thanks for your thoughts/advice.
