    hi

aspi layer is whats needed to run drives... at the correct speeds aswell as via drivers...

nero has its own but the adaptec one is a windows ssytem one...

install it and try a burn at a fast speed! it should saty constant then...

    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...duct/ASPI-4.70&filekey=aspi_471a2.exe&sess=no

load then use this to check its loaded ok!

    C:\adaptec\aspi\aspichk.exe

it will also show in nero logs aswell then...

Do you have it installed on XP because it doesn't seem to list it?:

I saw the scan on the other thread. :)

It is strange about the MCC004.

As for the ASPI, as Rotary suggested, try it. Just because XP isn't listed, doesn't mean it will not work. XP isn't "required" to have it, is the reason it isn't listed. I have it installed on my system without problems. It only adds a few dll's.

Meh... I wonder why my drive seems to stop close to the beginning, if you look at the top screen.

    Hi again

I used that create dvd feature in cd/dvd speed and this shows my problem exactly. Why is my computer/drive limiting itself to 4x??

    hi

umm so you all look good and ready to go, but yes 16 mins to burn at 16x isnt good

this is the drive doesnt like the disc much:

i wonder what time span you would get burning at 8x instead of 16x ???

have you ever tried a diferent brand dvdr? i would try some decent media just incase now your system is/looks good to go, it may be the discs letting you down?

Are you running QSuite? I just read on CDFreaks that the MCC-004 coded discs have caused problems with Solid Burn turned on. Try turning it off (if your running it) and see if there is a difference.

    Let us know.

    hi

    === Scsi-Device-Map ===
if hes pulling the file from this hrad drive then yes! (well maybe not as its viariad and i dont think it will show DMA as a normal ide drive would show it?)

    DiskPeripheral : WDC WD800JD-22LSA0 06.0 [bold]viasraid[/bold] Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off

but if from here then should be ok:

DiskPeripheral : WDC WD2500JB-00GVA0 atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On

hi, i'm only up to speed in RAID with Solaris systems, not PC's so don't know if DMA definitely has to be ON for the RAID devices (i think it does plus even if DMA is off for a given drive, say a cd drive that isn't being used at the time of the burn, DMA is dragged down to the same level of the lowest common denominator; but without googling i don't know for definite if these RAID devices need DMA to be ON).
    checking..

here's the regedit way of bullying DMA into being ON....

but still googling to see if DMA needs to be ON for the Promise RAID controller....

edit- here's the snippet from the BCHC firmware that shows MCC004 is supported in the firmware -
    - just don't know (yet) why the Nero logs show MCC004 to be unsupported....

    Hi

First of all I did what creaky stated with the registry, but I don't notice a change.

Secondly I'm using this drive: DiskPeripheral : WDC WD2500JB-00GVA0 atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On to burn from.

I turned off WOPC as well, and got this:

It's like this thing is hard coded to not exceed 4x...

    @Dolphin

I'll try turning solidburn off and wopc off to burn

    @Rotary

I'll recieve a shipment of DVD-R TYG02's next wednesday, but as of now all I have is MCC-004, RICOHJPN R02, and a couple RITEK R03's. Next Wednesday if I can't get this thing to burn TYG02's @ 8x, I'm think I'll flash it's original firmware(BCFC) and send it back to newegg for replacement.

    RITEK R03 @ 8x

These two scans illustrate what I was trying to say in my first post. The drive starts out good, but then I can hear it "die" and when it starts up again it stays at 4x.

@Draugr: You got a bad install of that ASPI. All 4 should read 4.71.2.

I don't remember exactly how to correct it. You need to use the Adaptec killdump.bat utility, reboot and try again, I think.

    Hi Grandpa,

    How's this look?

Going to try a burn now.

EDIT: Same problem.. Any idea why it dies? It will climb to 8x and just stop, and after 2-3 seconds the drive starts spinning again and continues at 4x. I'll try the same burn on my NEC and see if this problem is with the BENQ or my computer.

EDIT2: WTF... My NEC does that reset crap multiple times throughout the burn. The way it "climbs" to 8x is quite weird as well..

Hi! (I realize that I am probably getting annoying by now, I'm sorry really!)

Do you guys think that maybe my Power Supply is going bad?

Here's the story. I shutdown my computer and when I turned it on I got a black screen with red writing stating that my Radeon 9800 Pro's power cable wasn't plugged in. This puzzled me because I didn't even mess with it, so I look and its firmly plugged in. I restart and get the same error. I unplug it and plug it back in and the error goes away, but my BenQ has no power. So, I turn the computer off unplug both of their power cables, wait five minutes, and plug them back in. Now both of them seem to be working alright, but do you think this may be the source of all my woes? That my 480W PSU can't support the power to burn at anything higher than 4x? If anyone can confirm this possiblility, I'll pick me up a new PSU tomorrow.

    hi

yes this whole saga is very odd and to be honest its looking like its something else rather than the normal problems we all see on here with burning issues, may be a new psu will sort it? not sure really but from what you say something is wrong there!

oh and dont worry on posting alot here i for one down mind in the slightest as we are all trying to help you sort things, all this can be very annoying we all been there chap. and dare say will be in the future too.

i have a 650watt psu but i have ran the same amount of drives on a 500watt all ok (i chucked the 400watt cheaper out my new pc) and the 500 / 650 psu's were top range enermax with good power rails for all like ram/cpu/g-card etc, i am running 10 drives right now.

oh and one more thing i only installed aspi layer as you did first off i didnt make mine go to same version for all 4 files, done the same for years... no problems here.

    i burn with a pioneer + liteon
