I suggest that AfterDawn Addict’s and Moderator’s should have a private (LOUNGE}

there is only one way to do this,at the beginning all mods and AfterDawn Addict’s are to be able to be installed in the private (LOUNGE},then the weeding process can start..if it turns out a mod or a AfterDawn Addict prove to be a jerk his backside is kicked out.

the reason i started this thread so there was fast communations between the mods and the AfterDawn Addict’s in case a problem should show up on the site that the AfterDawn Addict’s or a mod can not handle..as there are here most of the time.
pm's take to long..also a AfterDawn Addict or mod can be made aware of help needed in a thread be it help with a problem or a spam-mer etc.

 

This discussion is a fine example of why a lounge would be a good idea. Everyone is being very eloquent & articulate in making their views known. Both sides have made excellent points. The way of selection seems to be a bone of possible contention.
I have made loads of posts in the safety valve. It is nice to get to know what other people are like who are in Afterdawn. I stick mainly to PC hardware, All other topics, burning for newbies & advanced.
I think that automatic promotion is probably the fairest way of doing things, the membership is substantial, & it would take up too much time if individual promotions had to be discussed. The same cannot be said for the selection of members to the lounge. Most here know who contributes more than others. ScubaPete is a classic example of a member going out of his way to help people. his guides are an integral part of dvd burning history!
Seems to be lots of rules & regs regarding the lounge. Not sure if this is a good idea. I have been here a couple of years now & I know a few members. I cannot remember the last time that 2 seniors fell out. The likelyhood of addicts getting in a tiz is, I would have thought, remote at best. Handbags at 50 paces ladies! LOL!!

Hi guys, This is an excellent idea. I don't get on as much as I use to anymore. I have my hands in a few other things now. If this every gets off the drawing board I think the mods should decide if the first members are blanket installed or hand selected. After the first batch then as stated more than just post count will have to be looked at. Just having the Addict title can't be the only reason to allow membership. You will have members posting all day and night trying to get in. Anyway very nice idea.

I never agreed with the switch to the new promotion scheme but drd made that call and had every right to do so.
It would be nice to see merit have value again. It would give those who have given so much of their time and mental energy a small reward and a goal with actual meaning for others. As long as drd does not have to listen to more complaints then it just might work.

The way I see AD now is that all-inclusivness is the standard here unless you are a rather blatant rule breaker/spammer. Since the rule change the way to get ahead here now is to have lots of posts, so thats what folks do. Adding this "exclusive club" would go against this. Not a bad idea as far as I'm concerned.

I couldn't agree more with Lethal_B's post and also IMHO his attitude is what will make him a great Addict when he hits the big 2500.

I know what you mean about the "other things". I actually found a way to make a few $$ with the PC so I'm not here as much as I'd like to be. It's always good to get back here and help out a bit and see what's going on though.

 

@ Gurnard: have you thought to set up dagon dictates, do the small tutorial and then you should be able to dictate it in.I've been trialling it with msn and skype with out much problems.

what would happen to the rest of us like me....

we'd feel left out, i'm still only a member with like 400 or so posts, it'll be a long, long time before any one lets me near AD Addict so...

anyway i suppose setting up an IRC room would be great, maybe have two, one for the [bold]mods and AD Addicts[/bold](is it possible to type sarcasticaly <?>) and another for all other users because i think that a lot of users would be benifited by real time help, but ofcourese things like remote assistance and things like that are out of the question so why not this...
