    Hi

I think my HP burner is on the way out,

I always use Verbatim dual layer burning on 4x

but lately I'm getting a lot of juddery noise, and quite a few miss burns.

    [*]slow start times
    [*]odd buffer fluctuation
[*]and "session fixation writing lead out"

I figure its on the way out

i checked for new HP dvd1060d firmware and it says there isn't any

    http://www.firmwarehq.com/HP/dvd1060d/files.html

I don't think i got a disk with it to check firmware with "HP mydrive"

but its 2 years old so i probably need a new one

Whats reliable and quiet? (HP is noisy)
and not a crazy price :)
    burns dual layer
    i'm in the UK

    Cheers

samsung.. pioneer.. nec .. shop around.. all much the same.. they don't make loads of noise unless you try burning at stupid speeds.. 8x is pretty silent on a 16x burner.

cheers I bought a Sony AD-5260S-0B 24x Internal DVDRW SATA

my HP used to really MOOOOOOOO even at low speeds

this new Sony is flipping great :)

I've burned a few different things on verbatim single and dual layer and its all good

best bit was the price £11.29 from amazon. (in the link you have to click new item because the main one listed is not Amazon...weird...)
