Got that cold. Courtesy of my 4-year-old nephew I think, but the GF keeps feeding me hot toddies so I'm ok.

Congrats on not smoking! Keep up the good work.

Great deal on that Opteron but unfortunately I don't have anything that fits a 939 any more. That's alot of horsepower for $350.

At least you have someone to keep the hot toddies coming Dunker. My best option is geestar bringing me 40's and pork rinds.

Speaking of geestar's inside line, the P4 560 I'm using was another one of his freebies - the only markings it has are a few numbers and the word "CONFIDENTIAL".

I loves my Linux. I took the plunge when M$ made me talk to some yo-yo in a foreign land giving me the 3rd degree about where and how I got my copy of XP Pro in order to activate it. I end up reinstalling my copy quite a bit and as time went by M$ made me go through more and more crap to get it activated. I paid well over 100 bones for it years ago and treating a paying customer as a pirate is where I absolutely draw the line. XP will be the last M$ OS I pay for. I'm a die hard gamer so eventually I'm going to need Vista to play the newest DX 10 games so if they're going to treat me like a pirate I've decided in this case I'll go ahead and be that pirate they think I am.

Google "vista eula" and feast your eyes on all the anti-consumer trash it contains. You can only reinstall it ten times and noone at M$ casn give a concrete answer about how their algorithm determines exactly how and when it'll consider a hardware upgrade an install on a new machine. If you do major system upgrades like me all it takes is for Vista to decide the latest upgrade counts as a new machine and you're eating up your activations. Hell, with all the changing and swapping I do I'll use those ten in 18 to 24 months. It's ridiculous to force folks to pay $200 every 2 years.

Back to Mandriva, it's a great Linux distro. I went ahead and shelled out $40 for the Discovery edition that includes LinDVD for playing copyrighted DVDs, Transgaming Cedega for playing windows games and alot of other goodies packaged together making things easier for Linux newbs like me.. It also makes it easy to enable the XGL/compiz desktop which has so much eye candy it'll make your head pop. Go to youtube and search the term "xgl" and you'll find some great videos showing what XGL can do. Here are a couple,

pm me your contact info Janne - I need to get it loaded into Kopete. My Linux desktop is rather plain at the moment but I'll try to get a screenshot up anyway.

I purchased XP Pro a few years back like you did Neph and had similar problems with MS at times. I got fed up with them and used my XP Pro Corporate code that loads just like the older versions with a serial number input. Its running on several different PCs and all updates works from the MS site. I don't like doing things like that but when you pay for something and they don't support you, I do what ever it takes to get up and running.

Yes, you probably could. From what I understand, the serial number is for almost unlimited installs. I have used it on 8 different PCs myself and never heard of any update problems yet. I just reinstalled XP on my work PC after someone there picked up a virus I couldn't get rid of. After the install, it still allowed all MS updates. This was this past Thursday so it still must work. Gates' boys would notice 100 activations with the same number if they all showed up at the same time,LOL.

Many of you may recall Sgt Schultz from the TV series ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ who often made the statement, in a humorous way, ‘I know nothing.’ Without realizing it, he made a very profound statement.

    same here, ‘I know nothing.’
