Yes the traffic here can be a bit of a drag - No. Virginia where Wolf Trap is even worse. Then no a/c, 98° & the humidity here - that ride you had would be a 'unforgetable' experience :)

Yeah, my friend lived out by Ft. Belvoir off of Telegraph, and their house also had not AC, but it is a fun place.

I was thinking of going to DC as a vacation. Besides the smithonian museum and the beaches, what would you recommend I go to?

Arlinton, The Library of Congress, The Capitol Bldg. Write/email your Congressman for passes for the White House Tour. Also the National Archives, Olde Town Alexandria. Baltimore and it's Harbor. Not much beach in DC it is not on the ocean, need to go to Maryland or Virginia Beach. Lot's of things to see and do.

Let's not forget the Air & Space Museum (my fav)- though a larger one is now in Dulles Va. DC is a great place to explore - many things to do there like arniebear said.
One of the best subway systems in the country.
Well we do have the Chesapeake Bay beaches within an hour of DC - then Ocean City abut 2½ hrs away. But nothing compared to the beaches in parts of Florida and the other parts of the country imho.

But DC does have it's bad areas too like any urban city.

So mark5hs if you ever decide to come this way - pm what area you may be staying in - some of the travel recommendations even online are misleading.

Another pretty site is flying into National aiport at night - all the lights and monuments - though not as impressive as flying into Vegas at night - but each has it's own appeal.

arniebear - when you take that road trip give me a ring, pm whatever.
We all have to hook up! Have a drink or two or three..... at least!

Born in Marvel, AR; grew up in MS; now live in northern VA -- the place where Binkie & Arniebear are talking about. Been here since 1981.

@Binkie: Yesterday was a lovely 94 degree in the nation's capital! Lot of rain the past couple of weeks.

i was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. it is a little unfortunate to admit, but the city has disintegrated quite a bit over the past several years. the economy is horrible and our county gov't was corrupt and useless and we have a control board trying to sort through all the crap. however not everything is gloomy, if you like snow we sure as heck get enough of it! also we do have the luxury of having in our backyard one of the greatest natural wonders in the world, Niagara Falls. i must admit having Canada next door has its benefits(casinos, clubs, drinking age(19)). plan on moving in a couple years, but leaving friends and family will be difficult so we'll see what happens, and of course GO BILLS!!! we'll win a championship.......someday.......i hope

ps in the link at the bottom they mention the name "Blondin" whom i have been told to be related to...interesting stuff
