Yep happening to me also today, I post then it freezes I have to log off then back on. If I try to click the page back button it gives me the"web page expired message". I have also noted that the advertisements slot has gone of the thread pages and it just has the word "advertisement", with no adverts, bit strange?

So what happens when someone comes along having trouble with "Blades Of Glory" in six months? Do we all do this over again or does he search for BOG and read up about what happened last week; thus saving a whole lot of our time and his time?

Not going to happen, but I do think an archive type system would be a great idea for say posts over 3 months old!

Nah, I love trawling through really old out-dated threads that have been made useless by time. Its a great way to spend Friday nights.

On a more serious note, an archive system would be good.

IMO, its impossible to state what stuff should be archived and what should be left "open". Everything, in my mind, should be available for reading anyway, as the almost three million messages we have here, build up a huge knowledge base and big part of that data is something that can be valuable even years after they were posted.

Yes, I agree everything should be available for reading.

However, any topics over a certain period of time will become answerable by reading around the forums anyway. And if someone has a question RE it, then much better them make a new thread than drag up one from ages ago and most likely be flamed for it.

Just my opinion though, you da boss ;-)

Which is why, newbies can't reply to topics that haven't been updated in 90 days. But we trust that Members and above, when they do post to old threads, they do it on purpose, by answering to some dilemma that has been left unanswered for months, maybe years and suddenly they've bumped to a solution and want to share it with people who had participated to the old thread.

Well, I can see where your coming from my friend but the system I have in mind willactually allow everything to be up for reading. To elaborate a little, topics older than a certain period (ie. 3+ months) are put into a archived section. This is usually a sub-folder within a specific forum.

The positives are, newbies bumping old topics by mistake won't effect normal discussion and it also should speed the site up as archived threads are reduced versions of topics. Everything will still be searchable if a people want answers.

Considering the size of the board, we'd benefit from it.

Actually archiving doesn't speed up the site that much, even tho virtually all forum software support it as means to speed up the site. I've discussed this topic in more detail and outlining my solution for the speed up process in my recent blog posting. So, as by other means there can be a significantly better improvement for the forum speed and as we already block newbies from posting to old threads, I'm not very convinced on building a separate archiving system for the site. But of course, it can be done and is actually relatively easy to do as well.
