"Illegal disc" Error using Nero 7

Hi, i was using Nero 7 and using nero recode to burn dvds, and i had previously sucessfully burned dvds just fine but i have recently been getting these errors...here is my nero log

Hi,

Do I understand that you are trying new dics'? If this is the case, I think it might be your firmware.

Also, I saw that your memory is kind of low. Are you running a lot of proggies in the background?

First guess though is firmware. Try version 1.68 RPC-1

It is here...

But the version that you have, 1.68 is the latest "official" version.

Be aware that you can really screw up your drive if the flash goes wrong...

if burner is external then that ? is ok. If it is internal, that needs to be fixed. Check out this thread on ASPI fixes:

As JXP2307 stated you need to close down as many programs as possible when burning:

21 mb is not enough, not nearly enough for this. Do a right click on anything in your bottom tool bar, and close the programs. You can also do a Crtl+alt+del and shut down programs that way, but windows screams at you when you do it that way.

You have a couple of DMAs off.

it doesn't like your disc. Try better media.

You have Nero's INCD packet writing software installed, and it gives problems to Nero. You need to un-install it, and Zap it using Nero's clean tool.

Give those things a try and post back if you still have problems. It may take me a day or two to get back to this.

Just a note, all the Nero 7 logs have been showing up as not haveing a atapi installed, you can ingnore that.

Why not attempt DVD Shrink?

Just let it burn with DVD Decrytper Instead of Nero.

It will rule out whether or not it is Nero your DVD drive, or the Discs.

I gotta feelin it is a newer DVD that decrypter can't handle.

Try Nero recode with anydvd in the background...

The development on AnyDVD never stopped.

 

Firmware looks up to date, but try to search for any current if there is one available.

With only 51MB left, you're going to have a tough time burning. Try to disable any unnecessary programs at startup by going to START, RUN and type msconfig, and STARTUP. Or you can do "ctrl+alt+del" and "end process" on any unuse/unnecessary running programs -- it's eating up your memory. Best choice is to add another 512MB.

The above should have 3 lines, like these below (taken from mine):

Your firmware maybe up to date, but it looks like it still can not recognize the full media and its MID. I checked with rpc forum, but they only got the one you have. Perhaps, try to search on the net for any new available firmware and update your firmware.

Your burner doesn't like the media -- possibly due to cheap media or cheap/bad dye. Try other high quality like Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (made in japan).

You need to dump that InCD's program and or driver, it will only conflicts with Nero when burning. Therefore, it is likely that you're going to get "coasters". Go here http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html and download it to clean out InCD from your system.

Oh God.... not another CMC MAG. Try other high quality media like Yuden, Verbatim or Maxell (made in japan).

 

Try the firmware in my above post. It is the only one I could find besides v1.68

alkohol is 110% correct about the Media.

You would be suprised just how much good media will help.

 

in the program Anydvd the program says that the drive is disabled! What to i do to enable it?

 

oh and then i try a different disc and it says no disc present...help!

Pay careful attention to the last two items in the reply above by Alkohol.

-Get rid of the INCD stuff. It often causes "illegal disc" errors, and it often causes coasters. This is well documented, and Nero is aware of this. Packet writing software is a no-no, with Nero.

-Use quality media.

alright i reinstalled nero 7 and the incd is gone...the media i have used before and has been sucessful. another note is that when i have a cd-r in my drive in my computer an icon of a cd replaces drive:e, shows the amount of free space adn when i have a dvd+r it says "cd drive" and says 0 free 0 used

If your drive is not recognizing that it is a DVD+R, it [bold]IS[/bold] your firmware. As alkohol also stated, you should check to see if you can find a more up to date version.
