    it is a image of a video I grabbed from a WinTV-PVR-150 card and then created my own DVD.

    once again though the same image burns perfectly fine to a DVD+R

    Yes. You are correct. THe disc finished verifying and was perfectly good.

    ====================

    As an update on the thought that the image was bad. I created a new quick DVD from a different video. When I try to burn straight to the DVD on a -R disc, I get the following error after it starts burning the lead in

    Nerovision.exe application error "the instruction at "oxoo6b6ce4" referenced memory at "0x01553840". The memory could not be "read". "

    Does anyone know if that is referencing memory on the DVD writer or memory on the computer? I ran prime 95 for a few hours yesterday with no errors.

    THanks for your help!

    I think thats referancing memory on the computer thats been alocated for the buffer. I think that address is to high for memory in the burner.

    I still cant figure why it can be accessed for +disk but not for -disk

    Something else we didnt think of. Are you attempting to book type the dvd? -dvd can not be book typed and with the app not completly recognizing the media it may be attempting to if you have the setting for book type on.

    No, I'm not trying to book type it. I've looked into it using the lite-on utility but my impression is that you can not booktype a -R with their utility.
    So to the best of my knowledge I am not trying to. Specifically from Nero I am not or the Imgburn program.

    This has happened the second time since I used my laptop from September. I use imation 8x DVD+R discs in both cases, and at first I burnt them sucessfully, enabling multisession. When I want to add some other files later, in both cases they failed with the illegal disc error, and although in both cases the same stuff was still in the discs when you view it through Nero Express it shows that it's empty. I use Nero 6.6.0.5.
    Here's the log:

    @sadist -

    i've edited out your serial number..

    For Imation (ugh!) see here for reasons not to use their 'disks' - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/232406

    - Nero's too old, latest 6.x version is 6.6.0.18, download "update package 1" from here - http://ww2.nero.com/enu/nero-up.php

    - newer version of your firmware, 1.03 is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2180

    - sufficient total memory but no free memory, you need to close down more programs prior to ALL dvd work/burning to ensure sufficient free memory

    - what can i say, these are some of the most awful atrocious, utter rubbish dvd media you can buy, and you bought them! (sorry but they're awful, see the link i pasted at beginning of reply where CMC discs play the starring roles)

    - see previous comment

    Yeah I know, I soon realised that when my drive cannot be flashed so there won't be region protection. It came with my HP laptop, so I defiently didn't choose it. Is the firmware you linked to official, and should I install it (since I don't use a sony laptop)?
    Also, so can the problem really be fixed at all? I use imation discs
    all the time, and had no problems with my desktop PC with the same version of Nero. Is it the drive's problem?

    @sadist - you'd need to go with HP's website for firmware then. the discs you're using at the moment are being detected correctly by the firmware (at the moment) so just keep the firmware in mind for now. I attack the whole of a logfile you see, i comment on what i see, even if it seems irrelevant to the person posting the problem. Still read that Imation link as those discs are awful for one helluva lot of ppl. I take media very seriously and burn discs like it's going out of fashion so know what it means to be caught out by companies such as these, that's all.

    In fact here's a snippet re CMC media that i wrote today to http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/276843 -

    any other ideas or suggestions for troubleshooting for the problems I'm experiencing? I apprecieate the comments and suggestions by Rotary and Whompus.

    My only other thought is to pick up a DVD writer from somebody or buy one and see if that does anything. The ability to write to a DVD+R and not to a DVD-R just seems peculiar.

    I happened to find a DVD-R disc which came with the drive and it failed. So I might just try to get a test drive. I'll let you know the results.

    Thanks for your help and input!

    P.S. I also am using Fujifilm dvd+r's which worked fine until I bought a new pack of them last night. It seems that the new pack does not like my burner.

    Thanks for all your help

    @XeroTAO -

    - 107E was last version, dated Oct 2004!! so the firmware is way out of date to cope with newer media..see here -
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1968
    http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware

    - your blanks discs aren't being recognised, due to the firmware being so old. this is similar to what you should see -
    - ie a 3line paragraph when the firmware's up to date. Your new discs are newer than the burner's firmware knows what to do with as it's out of date and neglected by the manufacturer. it happens sometimes when newer burners are manufactured, they let some drives' firmware slip by the wayside.

    - see previous comment

    I used the modified firmware based off a Mad Dog 2.f9 which seems to be same one as Liggy's 3100@3500 conversion and everything seems to be working fine now.

    so thanks again for the help.

    A follow up to the problem I was experiencing of being able to write to DVD +R and not to DVD-R's. It turns out that it was in fact the DVD burner that was bad. I bought a newer Lite-on and installed it last night. I was able to burn the image to the same DVD-R media as befoer and it burned just fine.

    Thanks to whompus and rotary for your help.

    I'm assuming it is probably not worth sending the drive back to Lite-on to see if they can repair it. It is about 14 months old now.
