    make sure you rw disk is formatted before you try using it.
    It seems after Nero formatted it it couldnt recognize the disk.
    Might want to try having it erased and ready before you start.

    @imonly -

    Recorder: <ATAPI DVD DD 2X16X4X16> Version: G7N9[/quote] - G7V9 is latest - however this is from the Benq website - only download and apply this version IF your drive is actually a Benq - http://www.benq.co.uk/serviceandsupport/downloads/downloads.cfm?product=724&type=B - if your drive isn't a Benq, get G7V9 firmware from the appropriate website for your drive. If you don't update firmware often, your drive will have trouble with newer media

    - You're gonna have to free up memory or it's virtual memory time and your hard disc will be 'swapping', bad anyway, but very bad for burns coming off the hard disc too. Plus 256MB is not really enough, you should really have 512MB for DVD burning

    - what's happened here, did you intend to not finalise the disc, make it multisession etc ?, as a standalone player won't recognise rewritables if they're not finalised

    - Optodisc are sub-par quality, however this is a rewritable so should be ok. Get that firmware updated and free up /or get more memory

    i'm tempted to suggest using the Benq 1620 firmware; this subject comes up from time for these obscure drives. But i don't want you to have problems with warranty if ever you have to RMA the drive and they tell you to cxlear off cus it's got Benq firmware (ie the drive would in effect be a Benq).

    that's good to know. as far as i can see, Benq firmware starts with G or B, G is OEM firmware, which would be what you neeed, and B is retail Benq firmware for proper official Benq drives.

    it's up in a previous reply. I HOPE it's the right one though, don't want your drive to go bye-bye's if it's not 100% the correct file, ie i think there's a 1620, 1620 Pro etc, can't rememeber exactly..

    no worries. ps i got an idea, but it requires a blank disc (not the rewritables as you've done that to death now). try running a simulated burn with a blank DVD and see what Nero makes of it...

    soz, i post to so many ppl's posts i get lost up my own whotsit after only a few minutes :)

    when you go to burn in Nero, choose simulation instead of Burn, it'll request a blank disc & go thru the motions.

    I bought the same DVD-RW and can not burn DVDs but I can do CDs.
    I've tried Artec support ( no reply) and Sonic, I did everything they suggested, appart from firmware update and I am not sure if I have to return or dump the DVD-RW

    Does anybody knows which DVD-RW I can buy, so that it would be compatible with Compaq Presario?

    Thanks in advance
