Yes I did, But I think I found my problem it is called stupidity I think I downloaded the wrong file I downloaded the iso image instead of the real file I will try tonight when I leave work and bet it will work this time. Thanks jimlely
I have read the thread a couple times now: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/8/134963 I hope someone can take the time to answer a few specific questions? **Keep in mind, I will be using +RW DVD in quesions. I bought an Ilo DVDR04 Manufacturer date: Aug 2004 SN1401-1840-0086-G2B9 Question 1: What specific firmware updates do you recommend as I want to end up with the most current hacked version, just a list will do, no need to explain how, as I have read and bookmarked the firmware page and directions. 1B. I notice in forums, Gtrman sometimes ask, what is current firmware, and I was wondering how one can tell? Question 2: I am confused still about finalizing DVD +RW discs. I also have an R05 for testing right now, and the R05 wants to finalizie the DVD +RW (and you can only read on another player after finalizing on the R05--even on my computers Liteon 1673s). I realize they are both writing in a different format, which I expcet is the problem, and Gtrmnan stated the R04 wrote in DVD_VR format. The R05, if I remember, after finalizing, wrote in IN-CD format(my head is still spinning-so I may be wrong). Question 3: Can you explain how to take a recording off of DVD +RW recorded on a R04, and burn on computer, to another RW DVD--I want it to read in a portable DVD player. I take it the file would have to be converted to DVD video. So far I have not been able to to this. It would be of great help to just know what files need to be copied over and converted? Programs I have: WinAVI converter, DVD Decrypter, Dvd Shrink, Nero 6. I have very limited knowledge on video conversion. So far, I have only captured Real Player Video, converted to DVD -r, and was able to play on home DVD. Comments: R04: Pros: I like simple remote and setup. The recorded DVD +rw plays in my off brand player, and my daughters DVD player/Recorder. Has video folders you can view from computer, and I hope I can later learn to work with. Do not have to finalize the DVD +RW to see in another player/recorder, fan in back for cooling. Cons: 6 Hrs longest recording time, no 3 hr recording time (yet), will not play on players that require DVD video. R05: Pros: 8 Hrs recording time, after finalizing +RW DVD, it can be played in every DVD player I have. Cons: You can not view the recorded files (finalized or not), on +RW with a computer. No fan on unit. When finalizing a +rw (so to be able to play in another unit), sometimes data is lost, and all recordings are lost. Media: I am using Verbatium 4x media, which is of good quality Thanks for any help
I have had an R04 for about a year and just got around to trying to use it to record from the TV. I set up the timer and half of the time it fails. It will fail on one program then record the next and fail on a couple more and so on. I have 5 programs set up to repeat daily (recording Noggin for the munchkins). I am using 4X Memorex DVD+RW discs. The setting is for 6 hours of record time. I have tried multiple discs. After the failure, I can play the programs that recorded and even record more manually. I have watched it fail. It never even begins to burn. Just some internal clicking. The disc does not even spin up to speed. It appears to be a glitch with the timer function. I have updated the firmware but not to the newest version and have not yet applied the hack. Has anyone else had this problem. Thanks in advance.
snotcher, I have the same problem with mine. It just says failed. No reason for why. It probably records less than fifty percent of the programs that I set it up for. I allways set up the VCR to record the same programs just for back up, because I know the ilo won't record all of them. It would be nice if someone could come up with solution to all of the problams that these thing have instead of something that helps only a few. I have never been able to get mine to up-grade. All I get is data disk. From the experience I have had with mine, I'd say the only solution to your problem is to get a better Recorder. I have a Pioneer that has never skipped a lick, or gave any kind of problem at all. and is a lot easier to use than the ilo. But it cost twice as much as the ilo did. This comes beck to the old saying "you get what you pay for".
I just purchased an ilo R04 at wal-mart for $50. Howevever, they did not have the remote for it, so they took one away from the RO5 on display. It will not operate the R04. Does anyone know if the remote is programable and if it is where I can locate the code(s) and how to install code(s).
Try using maxell R+ 4x write $2-$3 at wal-mart for three disk.It worked for me after trying every disk I could all 8x write.
Hey motorcycl I had the same problem as to the dvdr04 saying data disk and I found I was trying to use the wrong firmware file I then downloaded this file WMEA1097.E20 it matches my dvdr04 drive sn# and burned it to cd and it worked great. Hope this helps.
jla376 The Ilo 04 is made by LiteOn. the 05 is made by Cyberhome. The remote from one will not operate the other. There are no codes. There is a site that has the 04 remote. I believe its about $15 with shipping . I can't remember the site but you can do a search for Ilo 04 remote. someone may know.
Someone posted something a while back about a universal remote that would work with the R04. It hasen't been to long ago. You can probably look back through the post and find it.
You can buy replacement remotes fo the 04 and hd04 here for $9.99. Haven't bought one, so I can't vouch for the site. http://store.litetrek.com./recoforilodv.html
I have an ILO DVDRHDO4 I have installed the firmware hack and everthing works but when I copy a encripted tape I get some jitter in the picture and a few lines radomly on the screen. When I try a home made tape it looks ok. Has anyone else noticed this problem?
as far as the remotes. you can buy a learning remote and program it to operate your ILO, only drawbacks are the limit of buttons you can program and high prices.
stoogenut, It depends on the type of Macrovision on the tape. Some MV tapes will cause jitter or a change in brightness with the MV bypassed in the recorder, but the recorder will still allow it to be recorded. enog29, No hacks for the R05. rygil Make sure to update to 1098RevB Hacked after the 1097 update. This will bring the recorder to current.
redskins9, You will need the following: 1097 Version 451S (original model) Filename: WMEA1097.E20 for serial number 4E01-184x-xxxx-G2Bx NEW!1098 RevB MV/LP Hacked Filename: WMEA1098.ES5 (3/14/05) Current firmware will be the latest posted by ILO. My site will have the latest firmware posted in both hacked and unhacked. If the latest firmware is only a system update, the last known update that included a drive update will also be posted in the latest page. If the R05 is sticking to the specs, a DVD+RW in +VR format will not need finalizing. It is the only disc that doesn't out of all of them. The R04 will not allow a DVD+RW to finalize. A DVD+RW in +VR format has the same file structure as a DVD Video with the exception of a video_vr folder on the disc. This is an industry spec and should not be different on any recorder that records to DVD+RW in +VR. Again, if you are using a DVD+RW, you should be able to use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD and use NERO to burn a new one to any choice of media you want. Once the DVD+RW is ripped to the computer, you are not limited to what media you want to record to. You probably know, update with hacked firmware for 3-hour LP mode. You can not hack the R05 Again, if the R05 is creating a DVD+RW that can't be use without finalizing, it's not using the industry standard +VR format. It should work without finalizing. I hope this has helped.
Thanks for the information! I found the problem it was my jvc super vhs recorder. I had to turn off the internal stabilizer in the jvc now it works fine no jitters! Thanks again to all of you. Stoogenut
Hi, I been using the ILO recorder the one that will only record on dvd+R or dvd+Rw mainly to record straight from satellite tv. I keep forgetting how to hook it up to a vcr. Maybe it's the audio and video wires I am having trouble with. Or how do I know if I have the black cable connected right? This is just to hook up a vcr to a regular tv no satellite hook up on this one. I wish it was as easy as the satellite hook up. Any help will be appreciated. My email is Angie21m@earthlink.net
Hello, I have an ILO DVDR05. I want to place the chapters where I want them to be, and hitting the edit button does not do it. So far all I have been able to do is hit the pause button twice as quickly as possible but this makes for a choppy recording. Does the edit button while recording technique only work on the 04 or is there a firmware update that I need to do to make it work on my 05? Are there any firmware updates for the 05 that I might find generally helpful? Thanks, DocET
I have a ilo dvd recorder model dvdR04. I beg all concerned to stay away from this piece of crap. Spend a little more and get a decent recorder. I got my ilo and it worked fine for about 1 week and now it wont prepare any blank disc. It keep saying invalid disk. I've used all different brands to see if it would make a difference, but no, the dreaded invalid disk. And yes I used the dvd+r's. Now I have a 6 pound paper weight. I even updated it will all the updates. It even has a hard time playing store bought dvd's, tends to freeze during play. So do yourselves a favor and avoid aggravation and buy a different brand. Just my personal oppinion of course.
