I purchased the DVDRHD04 last week and it is working just fine but takes getting used to its operation since I also own a Sony gx300. I visited this forum to see what known problems are with the unit. I saw the Gtrman site and the hacks available. I am interested in the firmware that enables the LP 3 hr record mode. I followed the instructions written by mr wizard but in step 06) the status window displays: < error: could not find macrovision hex string >
I tried to download again on a different computer and get the same message. Am I doing something wrong or has anyone encountered the same problem..help
also is there any other firmware updates that i should download..
    thanks

I seem to be having the opposite problems as others. After I record a disc and finalize it, I can not play it in my ILO DVD R04 recorder/player. I can play it in other machines. None of the dics that I record work on the ILO during playback. HMMMMMMM. Help if you can.

Please message me as fast as you can. I bought the ILO DVD recorder. When I put in a DVD-R it says format yes or no, I put yes because if I put no it would open the CD box. When I put yes it takes really long until it gets to %100. Then when it gets there it says that is a unknown CD and it would freeze my ILO, it would let me go to setup and display, but it won't open or turn off. Please tell me how to fix this problem as fast as you can.
    Thank you

It's the DVDR05, but when i put in the disc it formats it and then says on the little screen of the DVD recorder "UN DISC".

Most dvd Disc has it printed on the disc DVD+R or DVD-r.
I am not shure if the rcorder you have palys both or not my dvdhrdo04 only records on DVD+R DISCS. The dvdr04 series are built by LITE-ON and the DVDRO5 are bulit by cyberhome . If all else fails read the manual and it will tell you which Disc it will reord on.

I just bought an ILO R05 dvd recorder and love it. Most people are saying the disks recorded won't play on other machines. If you finalize them they will. Mine will play on both my RCA and JVC players as well as my Emerson recorder. The hand book to my ILO said it recorded on DVD+ but I found this not to be the case. Mine will only record on DVD-. Someone else said that the turner was mono. If you have have satellite then you don't have to use the tuner. Simply do the hook ups from behind using the RCA cables and you get excellent stereo.

I also read where someone wanted to copy dvds or tapes to dvd and couldn't because of Microvison. There is a simple solution to this. Best Buy sells a little box that is made by Go Video that goes between the player's video out put and the recorder's video input and it will let you copy anything. It cost around $100.00 but is well worth the price.

    Hi Everyone,
The quote below was taken directly from the Walmart web-site. This may help clear up some of the confusion about the + - issue of the ilo R05. My guess is this only applies to the most recent releases that are in stores now.
    Have a Good One!!!

"This DVD Recorder solves the confusing issue of multiple recording formats. How? Simply by recording on all of them! No more worrying if you've got the correct kind of disc handy. This easy-to-use DVD recorder works with Plus or Minus DVD formats,..."

Our good old Wal-Mart is going to have a Cyberhome DVD-Recorder for $79.86 on Blitz Day (Black Friday).

Quick question-I believe this is the right place, as it deals with our DVR topics. IF I use a DVD-RW or DVDR+W,if these are written correctly(anyway, the ones you can use more than once!), on my DVR(Have a LIte-ON), if I want to use it again, do I have to erase it, like on my PC, or do I just record over the old movie? Also, would you finalize a rewritable?
Actually, another question, as my machine records VCD's also---are those just CD's, but somehow the materials get super-compressed? Thanks. Jim
PS, I really like the Lite-On...it will write and read anything I've thrown at it, so far. Jim

    Hi soschief,
I will try to answer part of your questions. If someone else has a better explanation feel free to jump in.
Yes the Disc will have to be erased. Most Recorders call it Initialize.
You can also erase part of a disk if there is something you want to save, and re-use the remainder to record something else.
DVD-RW & DVD+RW Disc do not have to be Finalized. In fact most Recorders don't give you an option to Finalize the RW Disc. You can also Initialize Disc on a Computer. On the Computer it is called Format. I had a new RW disc that the DVD Recorder would not recognize. I formated it in the computer and then it worked.
I can not help with your question about VCD's. I am not familiar with this.
    I Hope This Helps....motorcycl

im at a loss. i feel like i have been ripped off and have no where to go. i bought my HD04 unit in may of this year. for the first couple of months it worked fine. then last month it started having problems. keep in mind i have only recorded about 2 dozen dvds from it. first thing, it was reading empty dvd+r and dvd-r as cd AND dvd and recorded nothing for the first quarter of the disc and then was an invalid disc and refused to record or play. now it refuses to play regular dvds. i just downloaded the hack and fix and it wont even read that. on top of that, my cable was out yesterday and i was watching some of my recorded shows and some of them froze up and stopped playing in the middle of the show. then today i checked walmart.com and found out they arent selling the hd04 anymore just the basic (w/o hdd). i looked through this message board and found that a few with my model have had to get several replacements before getting satisfaction. i am very disappointed and feel cheated. just thought i would share that with all of you.

I have a question for anyone out there. Can you hook up a dvd recorder to your computer? I'm talking about the standard recorder not one made for computers.

I would imagine it would depend on how you mean "hook up". I have mine so it can feed into the computer and so it can receive from the computer. I also have a standalone VCR recorder/DVD player hooked in, also. This way, it is versatile, and it also gives me more options on what to do. It is done with RCA cables/jacks, and has worked quite well. I tried an S- video, but that cancels out the VCR potential, at least on my standalone. I do run an S-Video from the computer to my tv, allowing me to run the computer to the large screen TV. My wife got me a wireless mours and keyboard, so I can sit in my easy chair with everything! Pure hedonism!

    Hi scpelino,
Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Walmart has the HD04 back on the website again. I doubt if you will find one in any of the stores.

    Good Luck....motorcycl

I'm wondering if someone out there can help me. I have a ILO R05 dvd recorder and can't figure out how to use the title menue. I've read the hand book and still can't put a title on a dvd. If anyone has the above machine and knows how to put a title on a dvd I would appreciate hearing.
