My friend is from NJ and I am now in FLA We both are musicians and purchased from Walmart the ilo DVDR 05 When recording off the air/cable, the music audio sounds like a warped record. I tried the update patch from ilo and still has the problem. Anyone else experience this...picture quality was fine...hmmm We both are gonna return the unit and try something else.
I was just at Target and found an identical DVD Recorder called the Trutech DVD Recorder TT1620 for $99.00. Asside from some graphics on the front drive drawer and the name it looks identical to the ilo. The Trutech has the firewire mini connection on the front with the analog connection just as the ILO. The back has the same coaxial connections as that of the ILO and RCAs. The major difference is that there seems to be many more postive postings on the ilo than the Trutech. I do not know if that is because one is sold in Walmart and has larger audience than that of Target or if the shoppers at target are just not interested in that type of device. In any event, I think I am going to go with the ilo since there are so many postives. User "GSERVE" seems to be the be all to know all on this device so if I should run into problems I will ask him. Just a quick question GSERVE, what brand of media have you found to work the best with this device on both DVD R and DVD RW formats? Thanks, Adam T
anyone with eye problems with the ilo 04 was told mine won't reset properly have only had it for about 9 months can't find receit please help!!!!!!
is there any way to use an ilo dvdro4 drive in a computer. my recorder messed up and the drive still seems to be good plus it has all the same hookups as a computer cd drive is there software that would make it work?
Hi all. I'm sure this has been answered before, but I've done loads of surfing around to find the answer, with no results. It must be so easy that no one has had a problem with it before. Does anyone out there use the ILO 05 using a direct TV DVR connection? My goal is to save all of the stuff I want to from the DVR recorder to CD, so I can free some space from the DVR. Reason being, I'm going out of town for a while and don't want my timed DVR recordings to overwrite previous ones while I'm gone. I've hooked it up just like my VCR was (VCR to TV, DVR to ILO), using coax cables. Before, I could press play on my VCR, and it would interrupt the TV broadcast and start playing what's in the VCR. I kind of am looking to do the same thing, except I'd like to be able to record off of the TV through the DVR, and onto the DVD05 recorder. Right now, I don't get any input from the DVD recorder no matter what I do. The manual says when the splash screen comes up you are ready to go, but for the life of me I can't even get the splash screen up. On the other hand, the green lights on the front of the recorder are very "pretty". Don't know if they are $100 pretty just yet. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
try hooking up with the RCA cables in the back like you would be hooking up a player to the recorder. Then you should be able to record from satellite. I have an ILO 05 and liked it at first. Now I think I have a piece of junk. It will constantly record on dvd-rs and then after I finalize the disc it doesn't recognize it. About every other one will work. I'm throwing away a lot of discs.
Thanks for the input. I think I've tried that, but will look at it again. I wish I had payed more attention while the satellite guys were making all the hookups. I just have wires going everywhere, but not sure what most of them are for. Thanks!
hi: i jsut bought the ilo dvd recorder and feel like an idiot becuaes i could not even get into the setup menu which was the first instruction. instead of allowing set up it kept saying no disc. the mnual says i will see an image on my screen and i am ready. it never appeared.i rebooted the machine several times, tried it with the tv on and off and still no progress. tehn i tried to put a dvd from the local rental place in to watch it with the tv set to channel 3 but no success. does anyone know of a user friendly instruction on how to set it up?
Hi ajavu, Your TV will need to be on one of the the inputs for the RCA jacks. Not channel three. It should be something like line one or line two or front or back, AV1 or AV2, something along this line. Put your TV on channel 2 and continue going down, you should be able to find one of the other inpuits. Also you will need to use a RCA cable with red, white, and yellow ends and go from the out-put on the DVD to the in-put on the TV. If you want to record from the TV cable, satelite, antenna, etc., also hook up the coax cable like you would a VCR. I hope this helps. Someone else might be able to explain it better. Also there are some earlier post about this. motorcycl
i did some more tinkering last night before reading your message and had tried the line 2 option. the screen is full of diagonal moving high contrast patterns, but no real image and no start up image or response from the set-up button on the remote. do have the right cables and colors match from output on player to input on tv. also, did the coax from player to tv and from attenae to dvd player.. i know someone who has the ilo with the hard drive who said his worked fine this way. if you have other advice, i am listening.... ajavu
Has anyone come across this problem? The unit (DVR05/MU) reports "No Disc" when I enter in blank DVDs. These are Maxell DVD+R blank DVDs. I have gone through two different batches of Maxell DVD+R DVDs purchased at my local Walmart. I can insert blank DVDs one after another without the unit giving me the "Format" option. After I've insert disc after disc I will "sometimes" (as in very rarely) get the "Format" screen. After that the unit preforms its record functions normally. I've inserted in other media (DVDs, CDs) into the unit and play back works fine. It just will not read blank media. Any suggestions? I've e-mailed iLo support (www.iloservice.com), but have yet to hear back from them.
Even though ILO says it uses DVD+ it really uses DVD-. I bought both and only the DVD- works. I don't know why the hand book has + in it. If I had it to do over I WOULD HAVE NEVER bought an ILO. I would have waited until I had a little more money and got a better machine. Luckly it's not my only dvd recorder.
Also with an ILO I have been having trouble with it recording a dvd. I will play it a few minutes and everything is fine. Then I will finalize the disc and all at once the machine tells me I have a blank disc or one that it doesn't recoginize. This happened with quiet a few of blank Verbatim discs. So I bought some Sonys and it did the same thing. I'm throwing away a lot of disc these days. But it's not just that. It's wasting the time recording then to find out it's no good. I should have known better than buying anything Walmart puts out. I have an Emerson and only occasionally do I have a disc that won't play after recording. I'm serously thinking of using the ILO simply as a player and buying another dvd recorder with a name brand. Now I think there may be something to buying name brands after fooling with this ILO.
I just received this response from iLo support: I guess they only want me to use SONY discs, because that is all that is left on the shelf at Walmart when you exclude Memorex, Maxell, TDK, or Ilo.
Since the support people took so long to reply I reposted my question using a different e-mail address and got back the EXACT same e-mail.
I don't know why ILO says to use +'s. I tried them twice and they won't record. It simply formats them and then doesn't recognize them. I have to use DVD-R's and have found that only the major brands will work. No Verbatium or other off brands. Then I still have about every other one not recognized after recording. I firmly believe ILO is a piece of garbage. I wish I had never bought one now that I've had time to use it. Stay away and spend the few extra dollars for a name brand.
wlstck, I think you have a defective unit. I've had my DVDR04 for many months, and it works flawlessly. I use the cheapest, no-name DVD+R and DVD+RW media from a local computer store. I'm sorry you've had a bad experience with your particular unit, but that doesn't mean that the whole product line is bad. Besides, Guitarman's f/w hacks are the bomb, man!
I made this discovery last night. If I leave the unit on for a few hours before I use it, it will more likely read the blank discs. (And these are the Maxell DVD+R) Is there a warm up time associated with the DVDR05?
Help, I need some heads up.I need a DVD recorder to record cable tv from the hard drive on the cable company's DVR I rent. I ordered a r05 from Walmart last nite but then found this thread and thought I better try to find a r04. The only one I could find was the display at wally world so I bought it,however it didnt have a remote so I ended up with a r05 remote and manual. Witchever unit I keep will not be used as a tuner or a playback machine. What do you think? Thanks.
