I did some more checking and found that I can probably get a new remote from ILO. I just have to figure out witch one to keep.
Has anyone had this probem? My ilo R04 was working fine one day. I set it up to record something. The next day I went back to change the disk and set it up again. When I turned it on the Hello came up, and that is all it would do. It just kept saying Hello, but it wouldn't do any thing else. It would not eject the disk that was in it. Would not turn off, would not play. I unpluged it for a while, but it done the same thing when I turned it back on. It appears to be hung on Hello. I think it has Crapped out. Anyone got an idea how to correct this problem? Has anyone had one of these that lasted more than a few months. Anyone got an R05 that they are pleased with? Thanks for your time.
I've had that happen. The only thing I can say is leave it unpluged for along time and when it comes on press the eject button. This machine still has a lot of bugs in it. It should have never been put on the market. as I've said before I also have an Emerson and it is no problem at all.
Thought I would toss my experience in here. At first I only played movies, then I got brave and tried to record some. I got recordings that had lousy sound for the first 20 minutes, so I hooked other wires up to it, the STV or what ever it's called that I found out is just for video only doesn't carry any sound, it worked best as soon as I hooked up audio for it. Then it got a really interesting problem. I could record just fine, good sound good picture, I would play each one before finalizing to check how it was. But then, get this, as soon as I finalized the disk and took it out, it wouldn't play again, it gave me a failed disk message, BUT they will play in my other players and in my computer DVD drive, go figure. That went on for about a week, I was making recordings from my DVR, a series off the history channel and some movies, I got one done pressed the OSM button, the screen went black, the OSM menu showed only the words against the black screen so I pressed it again and I got an all black sreen, the front panel said HELLO and that was that, it won't open, it won't do anything. I contacted the web page after the second try they said send us a copy of the store reciept, model number serial number etc. and of course after 6 months of owning it I can't find the receipt, it's lost in the pile somewhere around here, hiding out I think with the lost socks from the dryer, either that or they are holding it captive, according to the serial number it's too old, by about 5 weeks, I guess that's why it was on sale for so cheap, it must have been hanging around the store too way long. I think I'll buy a different brand, maybe with a VCR built in so I can copy all the tapes I have, and of course as soon as I do that reciept will fall out of the cob webs, or is it the socks will throw it out having had all their fun. Well that's my story about these ilo DVD recorders
I finally took my ILO back to Walmart tonight and they gave me my money back. I then bought a CyberHome DVR 1200 whick is actually an ILO I think. I haven't used it yet but am about to try it. If it doesn't please me I'm getting my money back and going to a major name brand. As I've said before I have an Emerson that records and plays fine.
I went through three of them. Just take a look at these forums. #1. dvd recorders are not as forgiving as vcr's. #2. many people simply do not understand them #3. media(blank dvd's) is another question,it is very unpredictable. #4. everyone is an expert, when the answer is,the manufacturers are giving us junk, equipment that does not work as it is designed to. #5. your tv does not require patches so why should a dvd recorder!
Your TV doesn't have an operating system. Your set-top DVD recorder does. Embedded Linux if I had to guess. Be glad it's not Microsloth Winblows!
I purchased an ilo DVDR05ZU recorder. Nowhere in the booklet does it tell you what X DVD to use. I started off with DVD+R 16X..Well that was a mistake, I ended up with more frizbies then I wanted. I went to ilo website and looked up their FAQ, and I came across info on using 4X or 8X but reccomends 4X DVD+R and RW+...well the 8X didn't work either. But guess what did work and works every time? DVD-R 1-16X. And they play in all my other DVD players. Why do they tell you to use DVD+R and DVD+RW if DVD-R works? Will it do any damage to my recorder using them? Should I continue to use them if they work fine?
I also have the ILO dvdr04 ,I bought it 2 months ago and up till recently it was working great , but lately ,its not seeing disc's , , getting errors , bad disc , no disc , data , fail , file , ect , & i am useing the same media , since when i purchased dvd+r for this unit they were on sale & i bought Bulk , so still the same , , Also when it does see a disc , I record my shows as normal , however it stopped finallizing them , when i goto finalize it goes for long time , then gives errors and ejects , & also when recording & I hit stop , it takes ALONG time to stop , I dunno whats up , it still plays dvd's just fine , , so I did clean the lens , just because i could & i did the latest firmware updates , & thhe unit s not running hot cause I have a big box fn running on it , now your wondering why the box fan , simple my cable box is right next to the ILO & the cable box overheats , henc forth the fan,, either way if anyone knows whats going on I'd appreciate it.Thanks
Hi Jweiler3, It's sick. It will soon die. Take it back to Walmart so they can shoot it, and get you another one. If the replacement even coughs or sneezes before three months, take it back and get another one, and continue to do this until you get a good one. You can try switching to another brand, but it probably won't be much better. I have tried several differend ones, from $100.00 to $300.00 and they are all the same. Very temper mental, and Very short lived. They are kind of like most computers; they never go for very long without having problems. Just part of it. They will never be as reliable as the VCR, and the DVD Disk wont ever be as durable as the VHS Tape. I love the technology, but I hate all the problems that go along with it. Good Luck….motorcycl
I got sick and tired of my ILO not recognizing discs so I finally took it back to Walmart and got a CyberHome which has tobe made by ILO as they look so much alike. I also got back $20 to boot. So far I have recorded 6 movies and all have finalized and are recognized. And to top it off I tried one of my many DVD-R's and it recorded on it as well as a plus. That's not to say that by the time I have recorded the 10th movie it won't screw up. But like the guy above said I will take it back and take it back until they make it good.
Does anybody know how to contact the ilo dvd player company,I looked them up on the web but the ilo company said it does not make the ilo recorders sold from walmart. I am homebound and it is hard for me to take things back alreay did it once and had the same problem, I live alone, I canot keep going back, I need to find the company I might have wasted my money but I would at least like to tell them what I think of them and get it off my chest, don't know about anybody else but 100.00 just does not grow on trees in my house, not to mention all the packs of dvds I bought and were wasted on that thing. I do most of my shopping on the net but it is too expensive to ship back all the time.
Try CyberHome. I had an ILO and returned it for a Cyberhome and the are identical. Handbook, remote and machine.
Hi Folks, I purchased an ilo about a year ago from my local walmart. I had some lockup problems when editing at first. I did a firmware upgrade with the "hacked" version that allows the 3 hr record time. I have had no problems at all with this unit. I use cheap DVD+R whatever I can find on sale. A friend of mine also purchased one. He has had endless problems with the drive door nor opening. In frustration he sold it to me cheap and he is buying a name brand unit at twice the price. I now have the unit and the drive does not open! I opened the cover and removed top plate from the dvd drive. Sometimes it works as long as the disk doesn't fly off when I press eject. I have read this forum for the last year and now understand how some people can have a great unit and others a dog! I have both now. Has anyone else had the problem with the drive door not wanting to open? I am hoping it is a firmware issue or something fixable. Thanks everyone
Hello, I have a DVDRH04 and it use to work great (until November). It is now constantly locking up while writing or finalizing a DVD’s. I have updated to the latest and greatest FW but have not reset the system and wiped the drive yet. I hooked up the HDD to my PC to save the movies before wiping it. I am not able to play any movies from the DVD drive. I am under the impression that most of my problems are with the DDW-451S DVD drive. Has any one tried to replace it with a better drive? I am thinking about putting in a 16x DVD +/- into it but I am not sure if doing so would create a compatible issue. Any suggestions? I am also looking into putting in a larger HDD. Anybody know what the max size it will handle? Thanks All
Wow, Sam Walton just did cartwheels in his grave. If Wal-Mart is "what America is all about..." then I officially renounce my citizenship here. If monopolizing a market to the point where worldwide economic outlook is based on YOU, and if all those jobs YOU created happened because YOU shut down an entire city and FORCED all those people to work for YOU when you opened, then welcome to Communism. Plain and simple. What an assinine thing to say on a board where so many of us are warning others not to buy a piece of electronic equipment. I mean damn. I don't recall anyone saying that ILO recorders were bad because they weren't made in the U.S. -- they're bad because THEY'RE CRAP -- and having been through three of them myself (two MU units and one ZU), most of you reading this loving these little hunks of garbage right now will experience failure. Soon. If you have $100 to waste, go for it. Toss the receipts, the box, in fact go build a new entertainment/home theater wing onto your house just to showcase the ILO-05 DVD recorder. Enjoy. Most of us don't have $100 to flush down the public restroom toilets at Wal-Mart but if you do then congratulations! Those of us firing off the warnings (and alternatives) are only trying to help those of YOU doomed to be left holding 20-30 unfinalized and unusable "BAD DISCS" a month or six down the line when your 05 either forgets what DVDs are, or overheats itself into oblivion. It will happen to 98% of you and I am unanimous in that (LOL). What you're forgetting is (1) anything branded "ILO" failed quality inspections and functionality tests (by CyberHome or Lite-On, for example) and got sold to Wal-Mart/Sam's Club for literally CENTS on the dollar and rebranded and sold at full price. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule. This is how they operate today. And (2) When you return one of these recorders to Wal-Mart, guess what happens? If it's "ILO" branded it gets put right back on the shelf for re-sale. All three of my returns (and all were returned because they stopped working, as noted on my refund slips) within an hour were back on the shelf. I watched, waited, and saw it happen. The final one wasn't even bothered to have it's box re-taped. Nice huh? And just a little MORE "FYI", if and when it gets returned a SECOND time, then it gets marked down for clearance. How dare anyone blame ILO problems on "user error" after all of these warnings from all of these different people. How frigging dare you?! You just effectively told the rest of us that we wasted our time trying to help YOU, and you insulted us while you did it. Nice. My final thoughts on this are (1) you were warned; and (2) you'll remember this little debacle down the road when you wish you had your $100 back. You have options now, you won't later. P.S. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Something else you didn't get with your ILO recorder.
I have two units a dvdr04 and a dvdhd04 and I have not had any problems with either unit except for the first hd04 i bought it was defective and I returned it and got a nother one and its great even tho there have been problems with these units it comon in the electronic worald to get bad things heck I have a TV thats 23 years old and plays great and one tv that quit working after five years . If everything was made to last forever people wouldnt buy anything new....... but thats just my two cents worth Racerxdvd
WELL I GUESS IAM LUCKY ! MY ILO DVDRHD04 $269 HAS WORKED PERFECT FOE ALMOST A YEAR NOW! MY UNCLE HAS TWO OF THE SAME AND WE BOTH WORK THESE THINGS TO DEATH RECORDING EVERY DAY! THESE WERE MADE BY LITEON AND THE CHEAP DR05 ONES ARE MADE BY CYBERHOME. THE SAME UNIT WALMART SELLS IS SOLD AT TARGET AND OTHER STORES UNDER THE NAME CYBERHOME. I SUSPECT THT THIS LINE OF RECORDERS FOR $89-$100 ARE NOT VERY RELIABLE AS THE POST LATELY HAVE SHOWN. I THINK THER ARE SOME HIGH END RECORDERS OUT THERE THAT ARE WORTH LOOKING IN TO. GOOD LUCK! STOOGENUT
GOOFUS you are so right. I had an ILO that would record and then not recognize the disc. Went through a stack of 50 with about 5 working. Carried it back and got a CyberHome which I knows makes ILO but it has worked fine so far. I have my fingers crossed. When I quits it's going in the garbage and I'll never by electronics from Walmart again. Just bought an HD tv and went to Best Buy. I'm one of those people that shops Walmart out of neccessity. I hate the place. The worst thing that ever happened to America. We did have a K Mart until Walmart ran it out of town. Sam Walton never saw this coming with his stores I bet. When he was alive the place was totally different.
I have a DVDR05/MU and it has stopped reading all types of of disks. It won't even read commercial DVD's and CD's! Please Help!
