I got one of the good ones!

    Hey EVERYBODY:
I am the new the NEW KID on the block and have had iLO's DVDR04 for some time now(like when iLO hit Walmart) and can say that if you were to pull the cases off them you would be amazed to fine the LENGENDARY LITE-ON internals.
I am sure Lite-on does not make a perfect DVD recorder to work to the end to time.
These machines are designed to only record a certain amount of media before they go south maybe a few thousand which isn't to bad for a $100.
I have 3 and they are working flawless. Once a year I take the case off and take a Q- tip to the head with some cleaner and gently clean the surface and godd to go.
A little white grease on the tracks where the door slide rails are and you are a PRO!!
Thease units aren't as bad a people make them to be.
I have been selling some of them on E-bay once in a while and have not had one come back with a negative feedback yet.

Is there any simple way to convert a video from the Ilo format so it can play on a PC? I'm using a Iomega DVD-RW drive and it can read the disk alright but the files are encoded with wahtever format the Ilo uses that my PC can't understand. .USR, .BUP, .IFO, .VOB... I was hoping to use the Ilo to record some Halo action on my TV and then put it on my PC to make a little movie out of it.

Are there any easier ways of linking my TV to my Computer?

I am very confused on the different models of the iLO DVDR05. I have a ZU that has worked OK - with only an ocassional lock up. It is a Dec 2005 model. I have seen the iLO DVDR05 MU at my local Walmart (built Jan 2006). Can I assume it is the MU1 I've read about in this thread? Is there much difference between the two models? Is one better than the other? Thanks.

I originally had a MU and took it back and got an MU1 November 2005 and it works great. I would think the newer they are the better they are going to be as far as manufacturing date goes...

    HI

I just wanted to say that I simply went to iLO's website and found help and emailed them a message about my problem. Then they sent me an email and said to download firmware from their website to fix this problem and burn it to a cd to fix the problem.

They even said they'd send me a disc in the mail if i didn't have a CD recorder on my computer. That's Awesome.
I wasn't happy with iLO at first, but I have to admit, their customer service is TERRIFIC!!! I'll update you on the results of the CD they send me. Best of luck to anyone else with problems. By the way Imation DVD+R's will work, whoever asked that earlier.

    ADIOS!!!

Are all of the Walmart stores out of DVD Recorders?
There are more than a dozen Walmart stores in the area where I live. For the past several months the only DVD Recorders they have had are the ILO R05 and the Emerson Dual Deck Recorder. A few of them had the $294.00 Dual Deck Pioneer. Then thy ran out of every thing except the Emerson. For weeks now the local store has not had any DVD Recorders at all. Some of the other stores only had the Emerson.
The Walmart web site had over twenty different DVD Recorders a few months ago. Now they only have nine, and several of them are only available on line.
They have dropped the ILO with the Hard Drive and added a Dual Deck Emerson with a Hard Drive. “Emerson EWH100F 80 GB HDD/DVD Recorder/VCR Combo”

Anyone know what is going on?

    Later on down the line….motorcycl

I have a friend that works at wal-mart. He told me that walmart wants to put all of there electronic items on walmart online shopping only. Evenutally they dont want to sell them in the stores anymore. The ILO brand is a big seller for them but not bringing in the big buck any more. They are really trying to push the big price named brand out the door. There motto is if you dont want it look at another place. Walmart is going down the drain fast they need to come up with a better store.

I was also thinking "the newer they are the better they are going to be." What I don't understand is whether the ZU's and the MU's have different capability and user interface. My ZU will record DVD+R/RW and also DVD-R/RW. Does the MU1 also record to both types of media? I don't care about copying VHS tapes or hacks to add features like region codes. I just want to record from the tuner and play DVDs. Any opinions? Thanks.

Hey iloilo, my ZU says it will only record onto DVD+R/RW's, does yours record to them even though it says they won't, and anyways, what's the advantage of this so called "dash technology" I've heard about.

Which one is better, and what's different about the "-" and the "+".

    bcallahan,

I just returned my ZU built Dec 05 for a MU built in Jan 06. My experience was that the ZU was working unreliably but equally with +RW and -RW. Only got the MU today so nothing to report yet.

    Never heard of "dash technology."

    Hello everyone,
I thought that I would update you on my new ilo. It's a DVDR05/ZU Bios: 05 72/105N. It was Manufactured Dec. 05. So far it is doing great! The hum is gone and I can play all of the discs on my other dvd player. The only problem that I have noticed is that sometimes it won't pause when you are recording and you have to keep repeatedly hitting the pause button until it finally pauses the recording. I have been taping live from the tuner and transferring vhs to dvd onto R +'s. This is really annoying because on the R+'s I am trying to have clean commercial free copies and I am ending up with half of a commercial in the middle of a great part. Is anyone else having a problem with this? I have noticed that if it just marked a new chapter it does this but also without this happening.

    Thanks!
    criket

They are probably returns. I'd leave them alone.

I have an ILO DVDR05-MU for sale on EBAY. I bought it in February and it records just fine and it plays just fine, I can play the recorded disks on my other dvd player. The reason I'm selling it is I got a DEAL on an RCA which is just like the one my buddy has and I like it better but the ILO is JUST LIKE NEW, still has the plastic film on the front. I may return it for a gift card if I don't get any bids, I can't find my receipt.

Hi to everyone. I just joined AfterDawn because I found this thread through Google when researching multisystem DVD recorders.
This is in reply too Video-Pro who was surprised when a PAL DVD played in his USA DVD player. I looked into this sometime back and learned that some DVD players contain a converter from PAL to NTSC, even inexpensive DVD players. Some websites sell expensive external converters which have a lot of features. On my Daewoo DVD player, about $50 at Target, I can play PAL DVDs and they look pretty good. In my research, I also learned that most American (i.e. NTSC video standard) DVDs can play on European PAL DVD players, but not always the other way around.
    --------------
Maybe this question should be in a new thread. If so, tell me. Anyway the afore-mentioned Daewoo player stopped working. It would not turn on, even though there is a small glow behind the power button. I opened it up and verified that the fuse was OK. Anybody have any ideas. There is a DVD stuck in it.
