i've got an archive that has two files, an .img file and a .sub file.

Nero will open the .img file but seems to ignore the .sub file

burned discs dont open, play, or even show anything on them

bad files or do i need to perform alternative operation?

I assume that the .sub file is some kind of text subtitle file (if they were ripped from a DVD I would also expect an .idx file with them).
Nero doesn't handle subtitles, so that goes to one side for now.

The .img file that Nero loads, have it burn the output to the hard drive as a folder instead of burning to disk.

Play the contents of the folder with your media player (I use 'VLC) and if it's satisfactory, burn the files to DVD with 'IMGBurn' at a moderate 4x speed.
